Griz 79, RMC (That little school east of the Divide) 72

Close one, Almost lost to a dinky school that shouldn't have had a chance.

But Griz pulled it out.

Thanks to Staudacher. Two threes midway through the second half provided a spark that got the Griz back in it. He hit another one later to also provide another lift when it looked like the Griz were starting to struggle heavily again and Griz went on to win.

Defense and rebounding looked bad today. Add some lousy shooting in first half and start of second half, RMC gained a nine point lead sometime in the game (I forgot when). They just wouldn't go away the whole game. Those darn pests.

Anyway, looks like the Griz have a lot to work on. Defense and rebounding, and, maybe, find a leader by example like Criswell.

Next up, another NAIA school on Nov. 10th against Montana State-Northern. Way I see it, they could use another game against a underling before taking on West Virginia (A game I am going to see live in Orlando at 9:30PM EST).

Hard to figure this team out -- more talent at every position than last year but they seem to be struggling.

Hopefully they are just off to a bad start.

They do need a floor leader - Martin is a natural leader and I think the best candidate for this crew.

Also, I think a lot of these guys are gamers and when the stakes are higher, they will rise to the occasion.

I guess we have 2 threads for Rocky. I wouldn't get too worked up over an exhibition game. In 2004-05 season the Griz beat Rocky 73-67. That is why they play the games. There are far more upsets in Basketball than in football.

There is not more talent at every position. You can't discount, especially early in the season, the loss of Criswell and Matthews. Besides being tremendous leaders, they ranked 2nd and 3rd in scoring and rebounding. I think the GRIZ will be OK, but right now, there is a definite drop-off at the wing positions.

Gwhiz,

I agree with you. It takes a little time for everyone to learn their roles and for the leadership to emerge. That is why they play a preseason.

They also ranked 1st and 2nd in turnovers. Don't get me wrong, I feel they were a huge part of last year's success and we would have been in big trouble without them. It is just my opinion that across the board, we have more talent at every position this year.

I just hope the Griz start to show their talent soon. I think they will.

Larry would be rippin these guys a new one, I hope Wayne's doing the same.

Wayne is not a cookie cutter of LK, not many are, but Tinks will get in your face when he needs to. :thumb:
