Greatfalls Griz basketball boosters .......

....... now is your chance to ask Tinkle whats the deal with recruiting. Tinkle along with other Griz personel will be at a booster function tonight (Thursday). If you find anything out pass it along.
 
here's what i find odd.

our athletic department fully recognizes the need to have coaches and sometimes players get out to meet griz fans throughout the state, to "connect with the fan base."

it's called public relations. it's a crucial element of any athletic program. joe glenn was a master at it; pat kennedy wasn't.

and yet right here, on e-griz, there exists a substantial albeit virtual constituency of passionate griz fans, who live and die with the basketball team, and are asking for little more than to know what players were signed during the late signing period--a feat requiring a few clicks of keyboard.

and the response from the basketball program?

In nutshell Tinks found out who you were city, and is PM everyone else on here with instructions not to divulge anything to you. Tinks said when yo quit your damn whining and complaining maybe he will have Guffey issue a press release.

Damnit, this is killing me!!!! Does anyone know anything? Who knows what? Are the confused, like myself, having our legs pulled? If anyone knows anything on the signees please pm me.
 
Don't worry, if Mslacat hasn't posted anything yet, chances are nothing has happened. His thumb is definitely on the pulse.

I wish I was still back in Montana to try and keep up and try to find out some info. At this point, I have to rely on a few phone calls every now and then.

But here's a big issue in my opinion: www.montanagrizzlies.com

They see eGriz as a threat, instead of embracing it and using it to their advantage. They blocked Chris from having gameday media passes and yet don't add any useful information themselves.

How hard would it be for somebody to sit down with Tinkle for 30 minutes and get an interview?? If Chris or myself were still in town, we probably would have talked about doing this a couple of weeks ago.


MontanaGrizzlies.com sees their domain as a birth-right and doesn't really do much to make people want to visit the site. (Well obviously except for live games and schedule, stats, etc. - which is the bare minimum for the University Athletic website)

It sounds like Tinkle is acknowledging 6-4 Watson from Texas, and 5-10 Phillips from Kasasas, but not Ceylon Elgin-Taylor from Irvine Valley JC. That makes sense, I mentioned this to a few regulars on the boards , but not on the general board, that Huse and Sprinkle were recruiting Ceylon last fall but determined he did not have the grades to qualify at MSU. That may have caught up with Tinkle and Ceylon.

Anyway they say an announcement is due today.
 
He definitely refers to Phillips and Watson from the Kansas and Texas comments.

But what about his 6'1" combo guard reference later in the article? His 6'4" wing description fits Watson, but Phillips is 5'10".

To me, it sounds like he confused Phillips with Elgin-Taylor when he describes the type of player.


SO...Phillips and Watson are locks. Now does this 3rd recruit paperwork refer to lining up summer classes for Elgin-Taylor? My info tells me that there is at least one recruit who would need to do well in summer school just to meet NCAA regulations.

OR...Did the Elgin-Taylor stuff fall through and they have a brand new recruit to announce?


I personally hope its the latter. Both Montana programs have been bitten too many times by academic under-acheivers who were forced to sit out.
 
According to that article, wasn't there supposed to be an official announcement today? So much for that happening.
 
I really hope things work out with Phillips. His shooting stats at the JC level were extraordinary. IMHO he will be a heckuva player.
