The Griz got a great win. Two titans battling each other. Great game. Best I've ever seen in person.
No turnovers in game, excluding the 2-pt conversion pick at end of game.
Stats were fairly even. UM was better on 3d down conversions ( to 3-13). First down totals fairly even. Griz were slightly better in TOP.
The Griz had more by a few minutes. Clifton had a better passing percentage and a few more passing yards than the Bison qb.. 4.4 per rush for Bison. Griz 3.2.
Total offense was 332 to 284, Bison. Each team had 3 sacks. UM had not penalties in first half, but finished with 3. Bison had 6. I thought the refs were very good. They let the players play.
The crowd was very loud and caused multiple false starts and delay of game penalties.
UM left some stuff on the table. Another dropped pass on 3d down. A few passes missed to open receivers going long. A late hit penalty out of bounds. McDowell not running on a scramble when he had 10 of 15 yards of room, and could have made the FG shorter even if he didn't get the first down. A missed extra point. I thought McDowell could and should have scrambled about 4 more times, and threw the ball away more. He threw a few balls to keep from an interception. They looked off, but I think it was intentional.
RB's pounded for yards. Receivers caught the ball, except once. O-line seemed to block fairly well. The Griz went to the left of the o-line later in the game. Walker and Brown. Great to have them back and playing big minutes. Still no 61.
The Bison qb was 9-22. (He was leading the nation in completion percentage coming into the game, at 75%.) His receivers dropped a handful of balls. McDowell was 16-30. Bergen had 6 catches for 59 yards. He has great hands and goes up for the ball. Let's build an NIL fund for him and perhaps a few others
I liked the play-calling for the most part.
Meyer and Hill had 10 tackles. Hill truly is an all-American. Janacaro had 9. Gubner had 5 tackles. He played every D snap. Ramos' missed 47 yarder was partially blocked.
"NDSU coach Matt Entz noted: "We missed tackles. They do a great job. I know coach Hauck is their special teams coordinator and he does a great job. He’s confident. They’re confident. When you know you have a kid like that with that capabilities and talent back there, it’s amazing how hard the other 10 kids play on that unit. If you’d have told me we gave up 16 points in regulation and didn’t win, I would've thought you were joking."
Do OT stats not get counted?
The Bison and presumably the Bison seniors stayed on the field for a long time.
So excited for the players. What a season they have had. Frisco, here we come. My family is booked.
