Good, Bad, Ugly - Valpo

GOOD

- first drive.....fast and furious and a TD in like 6 plays
- Phillips, once settled in he threw some absolute dimes. Had great stats to go along with a 71% completion percentage
- JLM got even better. Didn't know that would be possible
- some youth got to show what they can do...Akem, Toure, Randy Rodriguez, Cowan, Crow, Sandry, Vika
- Jeremy Calhoun is going to be a force
- the O Line helped the backs avg 4 ypc and did not give up any sacks
- Eric Williams punting was absolutely a game changer
- Buss continues to be a beast
- McKinley showed what he can do
- James Banks was all over
- Tucker Schye was a beast
- Favoroso looked strong too
- Gresh looks like a young QB with a bright future

BAD

- safeties getting absolutely torched like 4-5 times (seriously if your only job is to not let a receiver behind you how does this happen so much)
- allowed way too many 3rd down conversions all game long
- let the QB run too easily and for too many yard
- gave up too many easy kick return yards
- a couple easy picks dropped

UGLY

- too many big plays given up. That was supposed to be a focus and change and it didn't look any different than last year

Semore has got to be coaching for his job the rest of this season.

I don't know how anyone can seriously say ANYTHING about Gresch Jenson. He played the final series against either Valpo's back-ups or guys that played the entire game and were worn out. He got his feet wet, and while he looked fine and all, but let's be real. That meant nothing!

Also, Semore was without his best secondary player-J Strong. Epperly got an INT and all,but he is not remotely in J Strong's class. I am not sure of Strong's injury, and it was probably discussed elsewhere, but he will make a huge difference when he plays.

Jensen getting real game reps, running the offense is huge in developing him. At the very least, if he gets pressed into play, he will not be as nervous. Great move by Stitt, in my opinion. :thumb:

I agree it was a good move to get him in. Just saying you can't make any realistic judgement's based on a few plays late in mop-up duty.

True enough, but let's not discount him also

QB keepers for lots of yards gave me flashbacks to our last game last year. Started hyperventilating. I was ok after the sedative and beer kicked in.

Overall, somewhat disappointed in the D.

Yep....I said this last night on a different thread, but the Griz have for some time now, pre-dating Semore's arrival, had difficulty with running QB's....

I mostly agree but two observations I think we can take away from Gresch's drive:

1: On his QB keeper he showed good decision making and very good field vision. And he is quick. Just in play, looked great.

2: The out route or the sideline corner/slant/comeback route, whatever you want to call it that he threw to Eaton I believe, was the best out route ball either Griz QB threw all day. It was a bullet. PR mentioned it on another thread, Phillips needs to get the ball out a half second earlier as those are broken up against a better D. Getting the ball there earlier also gives our guy a better chance to beat his man. It is just one throw in live game situation, but that is a tremendous throw for a Frosh QB to make.

And QB's that throw to open receivers that are behind our pass defense

This.

His release is so damn quick, and he gets the ball out so much faster than Phillips at times. Once the decision-making comes along, I think Jensen will be a real playmaker.
