Gonzaga vs. Pitt

Under 10 to go and Gonzaga still up by one. Seems like Gonzaga's point guard is able to distribute better passes against Pitt than the Grizzlies were able.

Pitt wins by five. Pulled ahead with 2 minutes to go. Gonzaga had to foul.

What did the Zags do to keep it close? Were they bothered by the press? I did not see the game.

Pitt didn't press them, Gonzaga inbounded the ball and played a much more uptempo game, not allowing Pitt to set up the press. .. Zags, were much quicker passers, not sure Pitt could have pressed them successfully.

saw the last two minutes and yes, the Zags were much quicker, they had a guard that was very fast up the floor. Pitt didn't really pull away, with about a minute left Gonzaga trapped Pitt, stole the ball for what looked like a contested layup (Zags were down 1 at this point) but that stud guard for Pitt fooled the Zag gal into thinking there would be contact when she really backed off and the Zag guard stumbled and traveled instead of getting off a shot. Could have been a different outcome had the Zag gal been a bit more under control. Too bad.

Lady Griz played a much more uptempo game last year. A lot of that was because of the greater depth on last years team versus this years team, and Laura Cote. Cote was the fastest player on the team and I feel she would have made a big difference for the Lady Griz in breaking that press against Pitt. But, Cote had to graduate a year to early. I don't think Mandy would have been able to play as long as she had if she really had to push it on her knees that are bothering her, and there really wasn't anyone on the bench that would have been able to replace her and give the Lady Griz a chance.

But, Gonzaga had a very good year this year. They should be a very good team next year also.

The Zags have a terrific guard who really pushed the ball upcourt against Pitt, a lot of the time by herself. She drew some fouls because she went at the basket and didn't pull the ball back out. It looked like Pitt didn't have time to set up the trap, they were just trying to get down the floor to set up.

As Peaux mentioned, Gonzaga had a perfect chance to go ahead with the steal.
