Hauk 2.0 so far no recruited HS QB having success. With Brent Pease and Timm with their former experience why isn’t QB a strength? Also, Marty Mourningwig being in Missoula and his ties to UM there has to be enough resources to develop young QBs in Missoula. What is going on?
I understand the hope for C Brown and his lack of success can happen, does his slow development excuse OC or is it a sign of inability for the current staff to have multiple QBs capable of running the offense?
Many blame 3-3-5 as unable to stop run. Samford also runs 3-3-5 defense and matched personnel to UNDSU’s formations or packages and held UNDSU to 2.2 yards per carry at halftime. 3-3-5 is a base and Samford also ran 4-2-5, 4-4, 5-2 and I noticed against heavy formation they had 5-3-2 personnel. Yet Griz consider swapping a S for a LB good enough against heavy. Do you like the 3-3-5 or is it a gimmick as many have stated? Or is there just a lack of sub-packages being run currently?
Last: Hops and Cilantro. What is your opinion: A little is good and too much is nasty or the more the merrier.
Seems like fans focus on our coaches ability to develop QBs. But I think the real problem is that we are signing QBs who are not FCS quality QBs. A coach can try to develop them all he wants, but if the talent is not there, it won't work. As I stated in a previous thread, we did not even recruit either Vernon Adams or Barriere. Both had multiple Big Sky offers, but none from us. Britt has exactly two offers, us and Eastern Kentucky. Teams not exactly lining-up to sign him. Brown had zero FCS offers except us. Not sure about Huot, but I think the Cats offered.
We just need to do a better job of identifying high school QB talent.
K Brown. K. Someone I listen to on a podcast says that there are situations where two things can be true. But I'll spot you the last guy that Hauck & Co. developed into a more than serviceable QB from the HS ranks. His name was Bergquist. Andrew Selle, to a lesser degree. That's it. That's the list. All the rest of them came from outer space, sorry, I meant from another coaches program.
Hauck doesn't recruit stars on the offensive side if he can avoid it. Too much of distraction when being asked about their successes on game days and Mondays.
