GAME THREAD!!

Let's face it... a Big Sky Conference ALL-STAR team still would have come up 25 points short on the Orange. I will give some credit to Boehiem's bunch. They won with class. No showboating or trashing a team they knew they had out-classed and out-gunned. The looked all business. We looked like a team that doesn't have a zone offense... imagine that.

Tinks has to find a couple big guys.
I agree, this is the key. We had a big guy against Nevada and it made all the difference. Even if we were not missing open 3s, we would not have beat Cuse today with the way they were playing.
My silver lining-hopefully Tinks stays another couple of years. I know that guy has a Griz NCAA victory in him.

Every damn player returning next season, better live in the weight room in the off season. I hope Wayne brings in a good caliber post player this off season. Guards better work on ball handling a lot too. Hate to see Will go out this way. He has a lot of improving to do at ball distribution for a legitimate shot at the league.

Jamar needs to work on his quickness and footwork in the off season. This has to really hurt him being the leader next season.

The weight room won't help these players. The Griz need some players with ice water running through their veins and a chip on their shoulder.

We need to recruit some thugs.

Syracuse fielded a team unlike anything in the Big Sky. Those were big guys. It isn't so much that Montana couldn't play Syracuse, the fact is that the Big Sky Conference couldn't prepare Montana to play Syracuse.

Too, the ball didn't go in. Can't say Montana didn't shoot, and with good position; one of those games where the ball just didn't go in. They did shut down Cherry and Jamar, but Gregory missed several from "his" range. No real reason, just "didn't go in."

But, what a terrific season, what a terrific team, what a terrific coach. This was a team. Insofar as "sports" is concerned, this team is what it is really all about.

This is just it and its the same drum that I've been beating over and over again. If we ever want to make noise in the post season, we have to start playing a much stronger OOC schedule. Dominating a low-major conference and scheduling low to mid-major teams OOC, isn't going to prepare you to compete against athletes from the top tier programs. Our guys looked lost. They played like they had never seen a 2-3 zone before, which they have plenty of times. They just arent' used to that speed and passing and driving lanes closing up so quickly. They played scared with little agression or confidence.

To be fair, Syracuse was just a really bad draw for us and there are a number of teams ranked above them that we would have faired much better against. They have the talent to make a deep run in the tournament and beat anybody.

Trouble I have is the Griz ended up playing Colorado St, Davidson, and S. Dakota St (all tourney teams) and a pretty good BYU team. Cherry was gone but all the games, except BYU, were close and all those tourney teams represented themselves very well and proved they belonged on the court. Griz did not. IMO this team came out and were intimidated and played scared all game. How else does a player of Cherry's ability go 2 pts, 5 rebounds and 5 turnovers? Deer in the headlights...

Wow! Interesting perspective. We did stick with those teams, who held themselves very high in the tournament, without Cherry, for the most part(Davidson). Does that say anything about floor leadership, or lack there of? Just a thought.

Dunno really what to say.

I'm not a big BBall fan, so I can't go too in depth, but even for me this was shocking.

I really thought this team had a chance, if not to win, then at least to keep it close. They had passion and swagger and attitude, and then a completely different team showed up on the floor and were lost.

Honestly scared that Mario Dunn is gonna decide he can do better. It was that bad. :(

Heads high, move on, chin up and all that, but feels like Griz Nation just got sucker punched, and we're all reeling. :x

Edit: and yes, I'm overreacting, but that's all my brain can do right now. :?

I'll bet Mario Dunn was thinking, "Fuch, I can do WAY better than these guys(Cherry)! Wait til I get there!" :thumb:

I can see the move up in football if the FcS keeps contracting but the WAC ain't going anywhere. We already would kick ass in both sports and in attendance. The big Sigh is a healthier conference. Mountain West. Sure.

The Griz have missed the flipping FCS playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years, and they are going to dominate the WAC?

That took longer to appear than I thought. By at least 10 pages :P

As I said in a couple other threads, how in the hell were we a 13 seed? How do we lose to Davidson in a weaker conference and get a higher seed? A 14 seed obviously would have made a lot more sense with them getting the 13.

Silver lining: Tinks should be here a bit longer...

Get a couple bigs coach!!!

CFalls, pretty sure people explained how that was possible...guess you are good at asking questions but not at reading the helpful answers of some.

Obviously I didn't see those posts asswipe. But thanks for either pointing me to them or posting it.

ah, if only the Griz could have attacked the Orangemen like egriz posters attack each other...

You included, Gramps, though I understand you may have had a very tough day yesterday.

Much respect, and I agree.

You never really finish, kinda like the team you're bashing couldn't at the rim.

Some irony there, Mr Mayor of Nowhere.

The Griz game was as nauseating as the chemo but both the Griz and I survive to see another good season to come.

I admire your confidence and spirit on both counts.

Best of health to you!

Will Cherry:

vs Wisconsin (2012) 3-14 (FG %), 1-3 (3 PT), 2-4 (FT), 2 RBD, 2 STL, 2 TO, 9 PTs
vs Syracuse (2013) 1-11 (FG%), 0-5 (3 PT), 0-0 (FT), 5 RBD, 3 STL, 5 TO, 2 PTs

And in Cherry's first NCAA tourney game (as a freshman against New Mexico), his mentor Anthony Johnson was 1-12 and 0-4 from 3-pt. range. The similarities are eerie...

I think Cherry should have gone into therapy after that game in an attempt to repair the apparent emotional scarring of seeing your team leader struggle on the big stage.

Hey, did you all see the dance team on the "One Shining Moment" highlights last night?

Looked good!!!

Yes they did. Damn proud of the entire UM Athletic Department.

I did see a whole lot of blue M's last night. Oddly, not a damn one belonged to a bobcat. Sure looked the same, though....
