game scheduling

I Know that this sounds like a crazy idea, yet I would really like to see the Griz & Cats schedule as many of the same Out of conference teams for football & basketball games. This may be difficult to do,yet I think that it would really provide allot of fodder for discussion in comparing the two teams as they would be able to compare apples to apples instead of apples to oranges.
In the same vein, I really think that the BigSky conference should really try to schedule as many other 1-AA schools for out of conference games to give us more credibility in the eyes of the powers to be. Any & all comments would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely. The BSC teams need to upgrade their non-conference schedules and play some other 1-AA teams and limit/quit Division 2 games. I hope that all the BSC athletic directors will follow Wayne Hogan's lead, as he has negotiated home-away contracts with teams like Maine, Hofstra, and Sam Houston.

More info on how some fine Delaware fans view us can be found on the 1-AA board. I would really like Hogan to get a home-away series with Delaware so we could settle it on the field. They're good, but not as good as their fans think.

And above all, the BSC teams really need to win some 1-AA playoff games. This year's opening round loss feels like 1999 when we underachieved and had Youngstown State beat us in Missoula. Shouldn't happen. Can't Happen.

Go Griz!

The BSC had the strongest collective SOS of all the IAA conferences. So it is already strong.

I was thinking that a home and home with Delaware would be great. As would be a home a nd home with McTeam. We should be able to schedule both as easily as SHS or Hofstra and Maine.

I like Deleware and/or McTeam for OOC games. Any I-A team or any quality I-AA team that have decent attentence at their home games. Maine had a good turn out, and even NDSU would have had a good turn out if we had played at their house. Even though I hope we never schedule another D-II team, regardless if they are moving up or not.

Because BSC's schedule strength is computed having them play each other...doesn't it stand to reason that this "tough schedule" assumes they are all tough teams in the BSC....but if in reality they aren't ...the strength of schedule will would have be artifically high. Just look at how they did against other playoff teams: 1-3 (with the teams that beat UM and MSU going down the next week).

Ursus, good point. You might consider though, there are only a handful of 1-AA teams that would easily run with the lead dogs in the BSC, or ANY conference for that matter, and that those teams are the ones that made the playoffs.

IMO, the BSC had the biggest upset of the playoffs. NAU over McNeese. I didnt mention it then, but I thought they had a shot at doing just that. McTeam had only 3 int's all year, which suggests a weak pass defense. I didnt think it would happen though.

WIU did go down the next week, but not before beating up on Colgate. The final score doesnt indicate that. As has been said more than once, the better team doesnt always win.
