Nick Montana won’t end up at Blinn College after all

When word broke that Washington quarterback Nick Montana would be transferring from the Huskies, he was immediately connected to Blinn College, former home of Cam Newton, in Texas.

That may not turn out to be the case.

ESPN’s Joe Schad reports that Montana will instead go to Mt. San Antonio College in California.

A redshirt freshman, Montana lost out to Keith Price in Washington’s spring practice last year. He completed 24 of 42 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns as a backup in 2011, appearing as a starter in a loss against Oregon State when Price went out the game before with a knee injury.

Montana’s brother, Nate, also found himself on the transfer list this past year as well, leaving Notre Dame for 1-AA Montana.

Him going the JC route shows that he has no intention of playing FCS Football.

Nick blew it when he did not transfer to UM before the season last year, as planned. These kids will not yield to advice from coaches, mentors, or even fathers. They have to make mistakes and learn the hard way. We have all been there, and probably "done that" ourselves.

Just understand that the plan was for Nick to become a Griz last year. It didn't happen, which is totally out of my control. But know that I was not blowing smoke when I told you that the inside scoop was that he was coming here.

Bobby Alt played at this JC.

Is there a point to this post?

I think it is pretty clear that his point was transferring to a Junior College does not mean you will end up at an FBS program. i.e Bobby Alt.

Nick may not be good enough to play for a legit FBS school. He might be New Mexico, Idaho, San Jose State type material. I'm not sure he could even beat-out JJ if he transferred here. Sometimes the father's name carries too much weight with these recruiting services. I remember all of the hype surrounding John Elway's son when he signed out of high school at Arizona State. He was about 4th or 5th on the depth chart before he left ASU. I have no clue if he ever played again. Anyone know?

Jack Elway, son of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, has decided to leave the Arizona State football team.

Elway, a redshirt freshman quarterback, will remain at Arizona State as a student, however.

"He's just tired of football and wants to do something else with his life," Sun Devils coach Dennis Erickson said Monday, according to The Arizona Republic. "He made a decision, and we all understand it. He would have played here eventually."

Elway, who was in a five-way battle for the starting quarterback job this fall, was considered to be behind senior Danny Sullivan and redshirt sophomore Samson Szakacsy on the depth chart, with sophomore Chasen Stangel and freshman Brock Osweiler also in the mix.

Elway, out of Cherry Creek (Colo.) High School, did not play in a scrimmage last weekend.

"He would have played here eventually," Erickson said.

As I have mentioned a couple of times Nick never had any intention of playing for the Grizzlies. He mentioned it on more than one occassion. Growlers source is a friend of the family, but I suspect I'd rather believe what comes from Nick himself rather than a friend of a friend. In fact, I heard he was quite amused at the rumor. Montana was always for Nate.

You are right, my source was indeed a friend of the family, which should make it a very credible source. The kid may say now that he was never interested in coming to Montana, but be assured that his dad had different feelings. That doesn't mean that my info was wrong, or fabricated in any way. Once again, I am only the messenger, and shared with the board what I had heard from a very close source of that family.

As for Elway, I can assure you that he was about 5th on the ASU depth chart when he left the team.

I never could understand why a father would encourage the son (Nick) that was supposed to be better than the one who already transferred in to Montana (Nate) to transfer to the same school...wouldn't he want them both to play?

Nick and Nate are set for life; and so is John Elway's kid. I don't envy them. Now, Andrew Luck's got it made! Oliver Luck wasn't near the QB that his son is, and Andrew should break his father's personal stats in one game. I'm not feeling sorry for the Montana boys or Elway's kid, but if i were them, i'd hate to have to live up to everyone else's expectations...especially if they weren't my father, but just a bunch of opinionated sports pundits.

The U of A just signed Ken Griffey Jr's kid to play football. Probably a wise move on the younger Griffey's part to go a different direction and follow his heart...the fact that Jr. had more success than Sr. is fairly rare...look at Michael Jordan's kids trying to follow in his footsteps, Montana's kids, Elway's kid, etc., etc.

I understand your question, and it does not make sense to me either. But, my source said that these two brothers are very close and wanted to attend the same school. My feeling is that Nate wanted to give it a shot as a walk-on QB for a year, to see if he could compete, with Nick getting a full-ride when he came to UM. Just a thought, as I have no knowledge of their real reasons.
