four minutes of agony; a little bit of death

Yeah always weird to look up late and realize your team might need to force the other to the bonus. I didn't notice this when we had the 11 point lead but after a couple pretty easy takes to the hole for 2 pointers wondered about letting them take it out of bounds instead. I think Weisner and Breunig both had 3 late in the game....but that takes two more to be gone. The only fouls we seemed to get were and ones that didn't help much. If you're gonna foul a guy who's shooting make it hard enough the shot doesn't go in!

All in all a great year for the Griz but tough to watch that finish the other night. I was impressed by number of EWU fans at the game and the sportsmanship both teams showed.

Good luck to EWU in the NCAA's and Griz in NIT.

Harvey leans and or kicks his foot out in an effort to make it look like contact is more prevalent. A lot of referees do not call defenders for fouls when a shooter is leaning or his foot generates defender contact. When I refereed a few years, I never blew the whistle if the contact was made from the shooters foot or lean. A few coaches bitched, but I told them if they want to get the fouls, they better tell their players to not kick the foot out and quit leaning to one side or the other. I also coached my players not to do that crap until after they could consistently make a normal jump shot. Harvey is 1 of the few players I have watched who I would give a green light to for that crap. He has a normal jumper down. Gregory is consistent enough to do it, but he believes in more fundamental shooting than getting carried away with the other crap.

To me, I hate referees bailing out shooters who do that crap.

UM head coach, post-game:

"I'm proud of this team. Um, we've come along way. Ah, no-one expected them to be in this momemnt, um, you know it's it's always hard it's hard to get all the way to the last game, and, and, and, uh, not get the victory. Um, you know I, I, all due respect to Eastern Washington, they seized the moment, ah, when the opportunity was there. And we didn't.

*Edited for a typo

Top player Martin B, post-game:

"I think we just mis-handled the press a little bit. Um, we just turned the ball over too many times at the end instead of executing it. So, I mean. We can blame it on a lot of things, but at the end of the day we've just got to man-up and just handle the ball."

Harvey's dad is a basketball official for Pac 12 and WCC. He is going to get that call every time. Call it professional courtesy.

UM Head coach, post-game:

"You know, a couple stats that stand-out: 61% for them in the 2nd half and 13 turnovers for us (raises his eyebrows).
