i'v been extremely critical, saying he never deserved the job, wasn't smart enough to build from the ground up. the first few years of his career i was correct, however the last 2 i feel I was dead wrong. he is improving every year, he works hard and the results are showing. Tinks, you have my respect. let's give the silver fox a hand.....

Finally, a basher or naysayer stepping to the plate. You got my respect. Tinkle has always had my respect. Even then, I have criticized and questioned a few things in his time, but never lost my faith in him as a coach, or as a person. GREAT GREAT job Wayne, staff, and players. Keep building it. :thumb:

I hate to say “I told you so” back in December 2008, but … well … I’m just sayin’.

We're in great shape!

I’m no expert, but I think we’re in great shape and heading the right direction. Interestingly, the human aging process causes people to remember the past as more glorious than it was. We forgave Heathcoat a losing season and two barely-.500 seasons. Brandenburg succeeded Heathcoat with a 6-20 season before leaving after two seasons as UM head coach. Even Montgomery had his share of sub-20-win seasons, including a 14-13 season and a 17-win season during which we hailed him the greatest thing since sliced bread. Heck, I remember, during the glorious years when Krystko played, we never once won the conference title, we thought an NIT bid was a huge deal, yet basketball in Missoula was king. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the present is superior to the past. I'm just saying, when I try to stay objective, I have to appreciate what we've got going for us now and remember that today, now, "these are the good old days," too. Take a look at the numbers below for a dozen seasons worth of perspective. We’re in great shape with excellent leadership right now. If you can't get excited about Grizzly basketball, you're missing something.

Taylor:
16-14 (1997-98)

Holst:
13-14 (1998-99)
17-11 (1999-00)
11-16 (2000-01)
16-15 (2001-02)

Kennedy:
13-17 (2002-03)
10-18 (2003-04)

Krystkowiak:
18-13 (2004-05)
24-7 (2005-06)

Tinkle:
17-15 (2006-07)
14-16 (2007-08)
6-8 (so far in 2008-09, including three losses to Duke, University of Washington, and a team that beat Gonzaga).

I was a believer in Tinkle from day one, but I understand why some had questions. I really respect anyone who comes back and says, "I was wrong".

And as Peaux alludes to, no matter which side of the Tinkle fence you started on, it's great that we are all believers now, and that Montana Basketball is relevant again.

Now, if someone could alert the citizens of Missoula, and remind them when game times are....

The days of today are much different than the days of UNR, Idaho, and BSU. I remember some knock down drag out games against the first two! With that being said, this is by far the most athletic team since Roger Fasting, Kearney, Kane, Anderson, ... I had the pleasure of watching the game last week against OSU and was extremely impressed with this team. I hope to make the WSU game. But the only reason I will be there is because it is my holiday in lieu of it being on the weekend. I don't know how many people will have that luxury. So it will allow me to come over across the divide. I will not be surprised if we go through the conference with only 1 or 2 losses. I just hope this intensity is kept at the same level. I too discounted Tinkle's ability to get 100% of effort and to close down games that were tight. But like any other profession, coaching has a learning curve, and with knucklehead fans the time allowed is a lot less than what you would get in the regular workforce. I love Tinkle as a person and love what he brings to the table. Most of all I think he has also assembled a coaching staff and team that is worthy of donning Griz jerseys. I am also thankful that we have passionate fans that care enough about Griz football and Griz basketball to bitch when we have sub par seasons, even though many of the fans are unrealistic. Just one of the many blessings in my life! I look forward to another great year of Grizzly athletics!

That's real great. Now that you're talkin' up Tinks the next thing you know he'll be hired on to replace some guy named Krzyzewski. Way to go DUDES!!!

Tinks has grown into the job nicely. Let's hope in a couple years the naysayers are posting similar things about Pflugrad. :thumb:
