Former Griz OC is new OC at Washington

Reports have former Griz Jonathan Smith (2010-2011) joining Chris Peterson staff at Washington and will serve as OC/Quarterback Coach. Great to see former Grizzly Assistants moving up in the college football ranks. :)

Hammer, I don't think Smith will ever be back at Wash-Griz because he's on the fast track. Went to coach Pete for just two seasons at Boise and is now a Pac 12 OC and Petersen won't bomb at UW so neither will Smith. The next stop will be a mid-major FBS head job, probably in the Mountain West, followed by a Pac 12 head job. That's my guess. Pflu new Smith was a bigtime up and comer.

Should be our next HC, but will probably never set foot back in WA Griz unfortunately.
Because as an O coordinator at a Pac 12 school he will probably make 3-4 times what a Big Sky HC would make.

That's not even close to being accurate. The average Pac-12 OC makes less than $350,000. The UW OC was at about $375,000, I believe. So, Pac-12 OC's make about twice what UM's head coach makes.

Eric Kiesau is making 400k this year with a 61k bonus= 461k. And upside is far greater in the Pac 12 than the Big Sky

I think Kiesau's base salary was going to be $415,000 or $425,000 for 2014. You throw in $60K to $80K in bonuses and that is at least 3 times what our head coach is making.

I predict that our next head coach will indeed be a former Griz coach who comes back to the roost after enjoying success on a much larger stage, but not Smith - Brent Pease.

Oh, please, no.

I'm not so sure I would be against that 68. I think his fire may be the thing this team needs.

His fire, maybe. His comportment, not so much.

Yeah I agree he was a bit of an ass when he was younger but I'm assuming he may have grown up a bit in the last 20 yrs? Maybe, maybe not, but with his resume' he at least deserves a look.

He made 600k base at Florida and a 237k bonus. What do you think the chances he would take the slight pay cut? He would be nuts to drop back to FCS.

Pays more than unemployment.

I don't remember the exact rankings but the last two years at Florida with Pease running the offensive they were outside the top 100 FBS teams both years. I know they had injuries that were unbelievable but they also have recruiting classes that are 4 and 5 star players. Of course he was also coaching against defensive of 4 and 5 star players.

Oh I would say a coach and a former Griz, but not a former Griz coach.

I'm going to predict that it will be a coach.
