I can't ever recall seeing anything about this on eGriz, so if it was on here, forgive me, but I just stumbled upon this story this weekend, and it's a sad, horrifying, incredible, uplifting, emotional roller coaster of a story regarding Christian's struggle with brain injuries/infections....

Christian Licciardi has been dedicated to playing football since he was 7 years old. While his football journey has ended, and a new journey has begun, he is a Grizz for life! He began getting excruciating headaches on 11/2/15 and was seen at SLV Medical Center Emergency Room. On 11/26/15 he surprised us & arrived in California for Thanksgiving, only to end up in the ER the very next day. Two days later he was admitted into the hospital, and a day and a half later, we were told that our son's brain was very rapidly swelling and he was dying-that he had only a few hours to live without surgery. Our option was that they could do surgery to relieve pressure, but that either choice would not have a good outcome. We chose surgery and began praying together as a family, and have not stopped since! Christian survived the surgery, having almost half of his skull removed on the left side, and a massive amount of infection found throughout his brain and skull. Nine days later our hearts were ripped out, as we were offered the same options once again, now with his right skull having to be removed, to try and clean out newly grown infection and relieve this deadly pressure. He survived this major brain surgery again, but now we were told that he had suffered four minor strokes during the time of this intense brain pressure. While we were initially told he may not live, we were now being told that although he did live, he would most likely not be able to see, speak, or feel/move anything on his right side. Along this journey, Christian has faced many bumps – head-on blood clots, brain bleeds, muscle toning, pneumonia three times, and many others. He has dealt with induced comas, induced paralysis, entire body was induced into a 72-hour semi-frozen state, feeding tube, ventilator/respirator, tracheotomy, three external csf brain drains, one permanent csf shunt/drain, two post-op external brain bleeding drains, three nuclear bone scans, and much more. He cries & screams out in agony every day, through every therapy session. The point of sharing all of this with you is so you understand that despite all of this, he lives! He pushes himself toward his recovery. He is a Warrior at heart. THAT could not be taken from him! He has a very long, difficult, and extremely painful road ahead of him. And his mom & dad will be by his side every step of the way, encouraging him to stay strong, push, & persevere. #PRAYERSFORCHRISTIAN
Google his name and all kinds of stuff comes up, including an incredibe FB page that documents his struggle/journey, as well as a GoFundMe page that is woefully underfunded.

This kid once wore the Griz uniform, and in fact was at the game this weekend, on the field....he deserves our support, just as much as Mick did.
