Although Katie Baker did not start today, she certainly deserved to start. 19 points and 7 rebounds in 20 minutes.

The other two true freshman also played well.

Swoops scored 31 points of her teams 57 points. Sonya Rogers scored 13 points.

looks like selvig went out and recruited three gems. katie baker and kenzie deboer will contribute immediately, maybe alyssa smith as well. no wonder robin doesn't seem all that depressed in interviews over losing last year's stars.

questions: why didn't ferda play? and what's up with ali hurley? had it not been for joslyn tinkle, i believe ali would have been one of the most heralded montana recruits in a long time. she's a noted gym rat with a redshirt year under her belt, and i thought she'd be playing at least at the level of the three true freshmen. what sayeth the eye witnesses?

Ferda: end of last year she had a leg brace on, due to ACL. Now it is either an injury related to it or a different one. According to the missoulian it was a leg injury.

I say give Alexandra time. It's not like everybody starts out a season the same. Why aren't you worried about Tiana Ware. with all the athleticism she has she still is one of the last players to come off the bench. She fouled a player with about a second left in the shot clock and Selvig yelled out for everyone in the audience "nice bail out". of course, she certianly isn't the only to ever do this so I doubt Selvig will be to hard on her than he would be on a veteran. Wish tiana redshirted last year.

Anyway, everyone develops differently. this is just one game. consistency is going to be a problem starting out this season. But Baker had a great start despite not being able to practice for 4 days.

This will come off as negative, but Hurley was/is overrated up to this point. Sure she scored at the class A level in Montana. But when she played stiff competition, Butte, she barely scored a bucket in Anacondas blowout loss (I think she scored 6 pts and 4 of them came in the very last minute of the game when Butte put in reserves). She has a lot to prove in my opinion. Hopefully she turns out to be a star.

Katie Baker, wow! A true freshman lightening up like that, I love it! Sounds like a big-time star for 4 years for the Lady Griz.

I would have to agree with intuitive. I've watched Hurley since she was a freshman, and in my opinion hasn't improved from that time. I was also never impressed with Ferda. Hurley has had a year in the system, maybe in time she will develop.
I thought the stanhope girl from glendive was as good or better.

I will go out on a limb an suggest Selvig is a much better judge of talent. ;)

Prediction: Hurley will start out the season slow but by the second half of the conference she will be playing strong. She is a different player than she was when she was recruited, and even last year. Player mature differently and on their own time table, she is simply adjusting to a new position.

Thought to ponder: "The best thing about freshman is that they become sophomores." Be prepared for your three freshman to have a few clunker games this year. It is what freshman do. Even the best freshman. There is so much new to them both on the court and off, that can distract them that it can lead to bumps in the road. It will be important for players like Ena, and Beck to help the team keep an even keel.

Nice class GB1, I wouldn't expect any more from you ;) just giving an opinion, selvig does know more about bball, that's why he's the coach. is he always right?.....didn't think so. am i always right?....didn't think so.
