In today's Kaimin there is an ad announcing that the Griz hoops team is holding an open tryout for anybodoy who wants be on the team. It is a 1 time only deal. So do they do this every year or we short of walkons? Or is Krysko just hoping to find a diamond in the rough?

The Griz have always enchouraged walk-on and have good luck with them. But I have never known of a player who has made the team coming in this late. Some of you Griz experts might correct me. Most of the walk-ons I can think of contacted the coaches prior to school starting.

It is really nice to have 15 player available for practice. 13 scholarships and a couple walk-ons work helps with practices allows the coach to field two practice team (in some cases 3) with a few people off the bench and deal with injuries. So with only 12 scholarship player I could see where the coaches are look to pick up an extra practice player. Then it will be up to the kid to prove he deserves to be considered for more.

They do normally have a tryout every year. Although last year it consisted of running them until they were all fed up of the tryouts. (Since they had Stapleton and Theirry already lined up)

I think its pretty standard though. Most schools run like crazy in their tryouts for the first week and if the kids put up with it, they know they have a good work ethic and will be great practice players. The last thing you want is a walk-on who has an attitude.
