BOZEMAN - Five Montana State University football players have left the team.

Defensive back Zach Coleman, running back Kerry Sloan, wide receiver Matt Thibault, offensive lineman Kody Grelle and wide receiver Michael Perryman are no longer Bobcats.

Coleman, who is from Cedar Hill, Texas, earned his degree in May and decided to forego his last season of eligibility.

Sloan, Grelle and Thibault all left the team due to injury.

Perryman left the team for undisclosed reasons.

I feel like I've heard of Sloan, others must of been buried in the depth chart :coffee:

Sloan played a little bit as a true freshman...mostly special teams. He redshirted last year due to a ACL injury. This year as a soph he was projected to be our 5th string running back, but was probably penciled in as 2nd or 3rd string as a junior. Good blend of speed and power, but struggled with field vision and making people miss.

Coleman was mostly a special teams player who saw limited action at DB.

Thibault, was a big time kick/punt returner at Belgrade HS, and I think he broke all/most kick return records. Had a back injury and never really saw any time.

Grelle, was an OL (center) the staff and fans seemed to be really high on. He was hospitalized for a few months last year with a staph infection. I don't think he ever really recovered physically, and probably is in a different place mentally after such a traumatic experience. He had all the tools to be a really great player.

Perryman: He redshirted last year, and was one of the gems of his recruiting class (at least according to fans). Certainly a loss, but he would have been mostly a special teams player this year as a redshirt frosh.

Overall, these losses affect our depth a little bit, but none were going to be counted on as major contributors this season.

Kind of looks like a typical post-semester/spring camp loss list - few to injury, a few to not adjusting, a few to presumed incoming transfers/roster space.

Wait, I think I just had dinner with Thibault's dad. That's too bad

A thin O-line is now thinner, quite a few kittens thought Grelle was part of next years mix, here's one for example?

"Catalano could start anywhere, except center. He got some praise last year for his time he put in and I think he's 15 pounds from being a lock to start. He came in at 250, then hit 275 last year. Sampson will stay at center unless the best combo Mac comes up with is having Grelle play center. Mac really likes Grelle, who is around 310 pounds."

As i said.....staff and fans were excited about grelles talents. Too bad he got sick and retired.

If thats something you want to celebrate, youre certainly entitled.

Ya, we have that same malady here, too. All our freshman should be starting All-Americans... until the next class comes in.

No celebration here, I feel for the kid like I do Timmer. I just think it's pretty low even for a kitten fan to minimize a players potenial as a possible starter like you did, just because he'll no longer play.

I don't see anybody celebrating. :? :? :?

Groelle was by far the biggest loss out of this group. The MSU coaches were really high on Kody as he was already taught and using all the techniques coming out of high school that Coach Mac teaches at MSU. If he had been healthy, he would have locked down one of the guard/center positions for sure this year.

Perryman also had the chance to be pretty good. Our WR coach is pretty picky about who he recruits. We had a fierce recruiting battle with Cal Poly over him. He probably would have broken into the lineup this year in some sub packages.
