Final game in 2017 schedule?

Anyone have any info on who the Griz might be playing to finalize their 2017 schedule? With Washington on the schedule it seems the Griz for sure would go with another home game.

http://www.gogriz.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=109&path=football

The two open weeks would be either October 21st week to play or after the Washington game and before Eastern Washington.

As we have learned in the past, it helps having an all Division I schedule and not games against Division II and NAIA as far as strength of schedule goes and Division I wins needed in playoff consideration.

Who would you like to see the Griz play as the final game to finish out the schedule?

You better hope it's a cupcake because you are already looking at 5 likely losses with that schedule as is.

Yeah, ALL the tough teams at home. I think we'll be fine. There's guaranteed wins to start and end the year....

Don't want a cupcake, and I don't think the Griz schedule one..

Unlike MSU, as they NEED cupcakes..

Highly doubtful, unless they agreed to travel to Missoula.

uh, yeah. It seems 26,000 in Missoula would allow for a decent guarantee. They're joining soon anyway. Don't they have trouble filling their schedule?

What are your thoughts about us even playing Washington? With all the recent discussion of teams vying for the NC and getting knocked down for strength of schedule I would be willing to bet Washington buys our game out to get a D1 on their schedule.

Looks to me that they have a full schedule for 2017. Google is your friend.

Nice touch.

Bingo! :thumb:

This year, Washington is just out of the FBS playoff bracket. And it looks not too promising for them to break into those top four. (Could happen, but they'd need help.) But if they are returning enough starters with some good prospects -- they would have to figure they'd be "in the hunt" for next year. No way would they want to weaken their SOS by playing down. SEC teams seem to get away with it (re: Alabama playing Chattanooga this weekend), but I do not see that working for Washington.

I don't see them "buying" out the game with Montana. Couple or reasons, they actually are paying us twice as we also appear on their schedule again. Montana actually has a better Sagarin rating than many FBS school and doesn't hurt their SOS much. They just need to win the Pac 12 conference and to make the FBS Playoff you need to be undefeated or have 1 loss. An undefeated team out of the Pac12 who wins the PAC12 championship game is almost always going to be in the playoff, IMO.

The Washington game will happen because there isn't a Power 5 team out there that doesn't have their 2017 schedule done. Washington probably wishes they would have scheduled better this season and next now, but it's too late. For them to pick up a better game, someone else would also have to dump a game too just to match up with them. Like I said, there isn't a single big name school out there that doesn't have their 2017 schedule done and locked. For that reason alone, I think it's very unlikely to lose that game. Now, could we lose the 2021? Sure. But who the hell even knows where anyone will be then anyway.

...
You make some good points ... but your statement seems not quite accurate. (To my surprise, BTW.) I wondered if there might be another team that regularly played FCS opponents early, who might also consider a buyout for that date.

First, I found that Texas Tech (Big 12) actually shows a "TBD" for their Sept 9, 2017 date. So that's one possibility right there. I found the same thing for Memphis. Now Memphis (American) is not in a Power-5, but a deal with Washington might look pretty good. And that would be an SOS upgrade for UW.

Well lookee here. You aren't even bothering with your asinine predictions of a resounding cat victory; you've already moved on to talking about how badly the Griz are going to suck next year.

Serious question: have you ever thought about just shutting the f*ck up?

I would like to see the Griz try and get a Southland Conference team up here again, or perhaps the Southern Conference. For an easier game if that is what we need, the Pioneer League (San Diego Toreros) or perhaps an east coast team in the NEC.
