Really enjoyed the pod, thanks for all the time you put in.

There was a lot of talk about not airing the spring game and your frustration with the reasoning of not showing stuff on tape. I think that the idea has very little to do with not putting plays on tape, but more of not putting PLAYERS on tape. A lot of teams are going to that model to stop other teams from coming in to poach players away after a great spring game. Nebraska and a few others have talked about it pretty openly. I don't think Bobby and the staff care about their plays being noticed, but DO care a lot about players being poached.

If true ? It sounds like a reasonable explanation.Maybe some of those boys who say they have an inside connection can verify it.

My inside source is Bobby Hauck openly saying that on the radio. Here is also a quote from Bobby on why it won't be shown --

"One, if they're a new staff, they don't want their stuff being shown on TV for the first opponent or the first couple of opponents to study in the offseason. The other part of it is they don't want people evaluating their young players when we've got another transfer portal window opening up next week," said Hauck

Since this isn't a new staff, that leaves option 2. They don't want a kid to blow up in a televised game that can be scouted, and then he is suddenly being lured into the portal the next week after The Griz program developed them all winter and spring.

At Nebraska, Matt Rhule feels the same, and a number of other teams have gone the same direction. --
Nebraska's spring game will likely be canceled moving forward due to transfer portal concerns, according to head coach Matt Rhule.
"The word 'tampering' doesn't exist anymore," Rhule said Saturday, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "It's just an absolute free open common market. I don't necessarily want to open up to the outside world and have people watch our guys and say, 'He looks like a pretty good player. Let's go get him.'"
"I dealt with a lot of people offering our players a lot of opportunities after that," Rhule said, via ESPN. "So you go out and bring in a bunch of new players and showcase them for all the other schools to watch? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me."
Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen confirmed that the school will still have an event to celebrate the players and prepare for the fall season on April 26, but it won't have the format of a traditional game.

Totally get and understand if that is true. But that has only been true for the last couple of years being a problem. After that Bobby hasn't been wanting to. The ways of the old have to change for us to take that next step. We have to look at other areas of getting NLI money for our players. This could be one. They did it during covid for a fee. Thank you for listening and love the communication. Keep it up and would love for you to spread the word about our pod to others. Thank again and Go Griz!

If you look at how many players joined the portal in the past years it doesn't add up. I don't buy the whole option 1 as he has openly said that our best stuff and guys will beat anyone. If you really believe it he wouldn't be apprehensive to do. I totally understand with the changing times. I think to help with that they should push back the spring game until after the portal closes. What do you think?

I hear what you are saying on the NIL, and I think it comes form an even deeper desire as a fan to just be able to see the game. I hear where you are coming from.

I think pushing it back until after the spring portal would solve that issue, sure. Are they able to do that, though? I'd see a couple of problems there, logistically, that would be created by moving the date later.

1) We do have kids every year that realize they won't see the field and need to transfer. Sometimes that needs to be gently explained to them by the coaches. If we keep our spring practice going until after the transfer portal, we would be doing a disservice to kids that put their time in and then have to leave but have no portal to enter.

2) If we wait until after the portal, we would be asking the players to keep practicing and have the spring game right at the end of finals week, from my understanding. That seems rough on the old GPA's.

Spring game means far more to fans than players / team.

Coaches don't need it and the "live reps" are not as live as advertised.

I'm not surprised coaches are minimizing them.

If they wanted to capitalize on something like this they'd bring in another team for a scripted scrimmage and raise a bunch of $.

I think Bobby does not care what the fans want or think.Just like he does not care about meeting with the press. It's sad really.I see no reason to not have a spring game televised for fans.We are not Nebraska and I doubt very much it would affect players entering the portal. As far as other teams getting a look see , all they have to do is send a scout to the game.I rather doubt other teams really give a crap about scouting a Montana football team.We are not Alabama and this is also not an excuse.

Enjoyed the Pod and the offense should be above average.
I'm looking forward to your episode on the defense. Defense needs to improve leaps and bounds for Griz to have a deep playoff run. Until I see them on the field i'm more concerned about the defense than the QB position.
