Apparently Boise State owns the trademark "blue turf" per the following article:

The whole thing is ridiculous top to bottom. At least the "blue grass" (I am going to file a trademark on that real soon now") isn't as ugly as Boise's.

Wow. That's an interesting article.

Pretty sure that Kentucky blue grass and blue grass music will keep you from your trademark, though.
