Well, it was an interesting weekend, with three of the games ending as upsets (sadly, not the Griz game, of course). The only remaining unranked team is Colgate, which got in with the auto-bid from the Patriot League. The good news with that was that they knocked off James Madison, which a lot of people here on eGriz seem to hate.

Anyway, the FCS season is not over even if the Griz are not still playing, so here goes. It is again pretty easy to decide what games to use. There only four, and every one of them counts. As usual, I used the STATS ranking to select the underdog. Fortunately, each matchup has at least one ranked team, so I did not have to go to the NCAA power ranking numbers.

Under-dog on left, one selection allowed.

I'd love to see the Bison get knocked off, but my upset guess is Charleston Southern. No one intimidates them after they played Alabama, they have some moxie.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if UNI does win though. I watched them lead the whole game vs NDSU until the last 29 seconds in the dome. Tough to beat a good team twice in the same year, NDSU will have their hands full.

Interesting. Virtually no consensus as to where there might be an upset.

For those interested, Appalachian State is in the Camellia Bowl against Ohio U on Dec 19 (broadcast on ESPN). Although the coaches will appreciate the extra practice time (the main reason coaches like bowls, unless they have a big incentive clause in their contract), information on the web says the school and conference don't make diddly-squat for events like the Camellia Bowl. Boise State will apparently do better at the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec 23, but not a whole Hell of a lot.

I remember when the Griz played in the Camelia Bowl, several thousand years ago. Guess I didn't realize it even still existed, in whatever guise.

May be wrong but I believe the Camelia Bowl "went away" then returned in more recent years.

For the upset I'm taking No Iowa to shock the herd faithful. NDSU defense played great against our guys (though with plenty of assistance from our side). The Bison offense failed to impress as it has in prior years. So I'm guessing UNI just might be able to keep this a close low scoring game and snatch the upset. Either way it should be a hard fought contest worth watching.

It will be a slobber knocker at the Fargodome. I am not sure who comes out on top. I do know this... No team is as despised by the Bison faithful as UNI. It's a nasty rivalry.

Dark days before the empire for sure.

Colgate - can run the ball. Watch out for them.

Not sure why it would be a shocker. UNI always plays NDSU tough and are basically a clone of NDSU. They run the ball well and have a physical defense.

With that being said, I hear a rumor that there is a kid named Carson Wentz who might start for NDSU. Supposedly, he is pretty good ;)

The great and wonderful Carson Ventz that was already get drafted in the first round by the NFL, CFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, and Australian rules football?

I could see how this QB situation could be a bit problematic. Stick has finished out the season and I am worried about how rusty Wentz may be. But, that kind of stuff makes the game more interesting.

Not a bad problem to have. Wentz is clearly the better QB. If he can play well let him do it. If not, Stick has been operating the team's offense effectively. Stick with him if need be. :ugeek:

UNI-Bison matchup looks very interesting.......UNI plays the same kind of power approach and I think they are better at throwing the ball.

A close game, panthers won't roll over in Fargo either. Ndsu will have to earn this one, HC Of UNI wants this one badly.

If the buffs win, I am thinking they may bulldoze to another NC!

I tend to agree. Other than the usual "on any given day" upset, I don't see much left in the brackets that looks like a solid bet to get in the way. On their season performance, one assumed that Jacksonville State should be in the mix. But they did not play worth squat against Chattanooga and it took a miracle play just to get the game into OT. Maybe they'll wake up and play better, but right now they look pretty shaky.
