FCS Top-25

I think that we may not be ranked at first. We have to prove ourselves in order to be ranked. It would appear to me that if we come out of the blocks fast, we may get other peoples attention and they will realize we are once again for real. We will have to wait and see. We will surprise some people that are not looking for us. It may be the whole league. Look out people here we come ( again ).

agree. if we can beat appy we'll get in the top 25 and could move up quickly with a game four win over n.a.u. the big test comes in games 7-8-9. we need to go 3-2 in those five games and not stumble in the other four. if we can get to bozeman with just two losses i'd be elated!

Yes, if you get to Bozo with only 2 losses that will certainly be overachieving... big time. You'll likely have 3 or 4 losses by then.

UM will be ranked and will have a good ranking. Most people voting in polls will know JJ is back and much of the team returns, and realize that UM was close in most of the games it lost.

I honestly don't give too much of a sh*t about ranking until the last several weeks of the season but I do think we will be in the preseason top 25 for sure.

Not sure where this Griz team will be ranked preseason (maybe 15 - 20). However, this is an extremely talented team and I can't help but laugh at all of the negative comments by griz and non-griz fans. Anybody that watched this team in the spring knows the defense is flat out talented with lots of size, speed and athleticism. The d-line and linebackers may be the best overall units we have ever had. The safeties still need to improve, but the cornerbacks are solid as well. The offense is a very good unit as well with a nice mix of veteran players and young talent ready to break out and with JJ back the leadership is there. This team may not start the year in the top ten, but they will finish in the top five. I fully expect them to challenge for a championship despite what SHSU and NDSU return.

Jesus H... did you guys not watch the coaching last year? You've got a relic HC that has never proven he can win, and in fact has not even proven that he can MAKE the FCS playoffs, and now he's going to have a miracle season and contend for a national title? Good ole delusional grizzville... some things will never change.

Our history shows we have no delusions; we deliver - consistently. The cow college down the road - not so much.

23-29, a few wins will move them up quick. If they drop the game to app. state, its going to be a bit before they get any love from voters again.

Really?

Which 4 games before MSU do you see us losing, and why?

Our history shows we have no delusions; we deliver - consistently. The cow college down the road - not so much.

Consistent: marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity : free from variation or contradiction

I assume we aren't counting 2012 and 2010 then? Or are we going to start counting from this year? I suppose in Missoula you get to choose your own definition of consistency, whether you ignore a few years or start with one year like many Cat fans do. You can't have it both ways.

The old adage, "There is no such thing as bad publicity!", may work in the Grizzlies favor in this regard. Because of the program's excellent consistency over the past 25 years, and yes I am including 2010 and 2012, and the publicity it has garnered nationally over the past 18 months I have a feeling that Eastern voters will be paying more attention to Montana than almost any other program west of the Mississippi.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them ranked pre-season anywhere between 15 to 22, regardless of whether they should be there or not.

Ok, well since you asked... here you go:

App - I think they are going to be pretty good. They have a veteran coaching staff, battle tested, will not be intimidated at your house like some other teams are. You will take a few games to get the kinks worked out and get JJ back to the level where he used to be. Close game but App hands you an opening season L.

@ UND – Talk about an up and down team… last year they thumped a good Sac team on the road, thumped you guys at home, and the CATS and EWU both destroyed them. Not sure why you have to travel there again, but I think it will be a dogfight. I’ll give this one to the griz in another close one. W

@ NAU – They still have Bauman and it’s early in the season so he’ll be fresh. Sauers will be very motivated to prove that his win last year over the griz, in Washington Grizzly stadium, wasn’t a fluke. Plus his team got left out of the playoffs so they’ll be playing with fire. If you weren’t playing in Walkup I’d probably give you the nod in a close one, but they’ll get you again in 2013 at home. L

PSU – They will probably hang close for a half but you’ll pull away and beat them pretty good at home. (And with this lopsided win, griz nation will be all giddy and get back to the “We are unstoppable” talk. W

@ UC Davis – Another streaky team… almost beat EWU last year and did beat Sac to end the season. You have to play them in Cal, and it is their homecoming. Another game that will be closer than griz nation would like… but I’ll give the nod to the griz in this one. W

Cal Poly – I said I thought App was going to be good… I think Cal Poly will be better. They are going to be tough, tough to stop – even with an improved griz D. They’ll hand you another loss at home. L

EWU – This is the one question mark for me. The rest of the BSC would like to think they’ll have a down year based on the studs they lost and their brutal schedule… but they have figured out a winning formula the past few years and I think they’ll be tough once again in 2013. This one could go either way, which is why I put you guys with 3 or 4 losses heading into Cat\griz. I'll say you lose this one but beat Sac... or vice versa. L

@ Sac - This will be yet another game that is way tougher than you would like. Down to the wire and you guys will win on some lucky fluke. W

@SD – I don’t think this is a gimme by any means but I think you’ll go on the road and beat these guys and your old coach (Who you probably wish you still had. W

Weber – Nah… last home game, last game before Cat\griz, jacked up crowd… you’ll win this one pretty easily. W

Well, we're both biased, and it's your opinion, so I won't knock it, but I think you're overvaluing Cal Poly, NAU, and Sac.

Poly lost their QB and best RB. Their offense also plays into our defensive strength.

NAU does indeed still have Bauman, but they lost their QB, and really our offense lost that game for us. I think we won't have the same problems we had last year.

Sac lost a lot, and probably won't be as good as last year. I doubt JJ makes the same mistakes he did the last time we played there.

We can lose all these games, but I doubt we lose more than one.

App is definitely our hardest game. And EWU will be tough. I don't see us losing 4 games before Cat/Griz, though.

App State, Georgia Southern, and Old Dominion will all be FCS transitional, and ineligible for playoffs or post season awards.

Will they be included in the Coaches or Sports Network polls? If not, I think Montana has an exceptionally good chance at a mid-poll ranking, IE. 12-16.

Bahaha, did you say 2?

They do?? :o

I guess the telegraph message informing everyone that App fired their head coach and replaced both coordinators didn't make it to Bozotown.

Cats 2506:

What is it about the phrase "... almost any other ...", that confuses you?

I did not say than any team west of the Mississippi. I said "ALMOST ANY". Having to point this out to you leads me to wonder whether reading comprehension is indeed part of the curriculum in Bozeman!
