FCS STATS Poll, Nov 24 (Griz #3)

Talk about a useless exercise: A final poll out after the playoff spots have been assigned. But, for completeness, here it is. As a matter of interest, the pollsters kept Monmouth in the top-25, even though they did not get a playoff bid (a little dig at the committee?).

Link to STAT.com article:

Decided to do a condensed version after all so I could line it up with each team’s playoff status. Notes will show their seed (if applicable) or a bid (auto or-at large = b).

Seems like the voters like most non casual fans took exception to Tennessee tech dropping out of the top 8 after a loss to an SEC the week before. Definitely should have been in the top 8 over Davis I believe.

Maybe, but if you take a look at their schedule, it leaves a lot to be desired.

I think it had to do with how the committee had them ranked on the 15th. They had them at 8. They won the rest of their FCS games whether challenging or not, and lost to Kentucky. Davis lost to MSU in that same stretch. It’s pretty head scratching trying to figure out the committees rationale on a lot of things. Ding Monmouth for not having a healthy starting QB and out of the playoffs, reward SDSU with a seed for the same rationale. Maybe this committee puts SOS above all, but you can’t pull the rug out last minute when you came up with two previous polls to show your supposed rationale.

Comments on the poll now that I've added the condensed version with playoff position comparisons. Conspicuous by their playoff absence are Monmoutn (we knew that) and Southern Illinois (had not noticed that before). Of course, Jackson State expects to be in the Celebration Bowl. As for auto-bids Central Connecticut and Drake ... at least they received some votes on the poll.
