The seven ranked teams having byes this weekend might consider themselves lucky. Among the shortened list that did play, we had four upsets, three in the top-13. Not sure how those will fall out, but it’s an easy call to drop Idaho out of the top-25.

The top of the rankings should remain the same since every team won or was Idle. Then we get to Illinois State, which lost to unranked Youngstown State. Of course, it is the Missouri Valley and YSU has been receiving votes, so the pollsters might cut the Redbirds a little slack. However, the Penguins were 0-2 in the Valley going into this game. It was a game that I-State should have won, especially on their home field. I’m guessing the Redbirds will drop maybe five or six spots.
The loss by Southern Illinois to higher-ranked North Dakota should not hurt them as much, although the final score certainly won’t help. But, again. it is the MVFC, where the pollsters know they tend to beat each other up. I think the pollsters will drop them only two or three spots.
On the other hand, I expect the pollsters to really hammer Abilene Christian, which lost to unranked Southern Utah. The Thunderbirds are not just unranked, they have only won one other game this season. I expect the Wildcats to take a major hit.
The final change is an easy call … Idaho is gone from the top-25. In fact, having now lost four games in a row, I wonder if the Spuds will get any votes at all. The replacement is also an easy call, since the top “Other” vote-getter in the last poll lost. I’m reasonably sure that the pollsters will move the number two Other vote-getter, Southeast Louisiana, up after their blowout win.
