FCS Playoff Predictions (HERO Sports) - 10/16/2023

Was looking at the 2023 FCS Bracketology - Playoff Predictions from Sam Herder (https://herosports.com/fcs-football-2023-playoff-predictions-1-bzbz/).

I am still thinking it's a long shot to say the Griz would win a championship this year (and of course a lot is going to change over the rest of the season), but can you imagine how epic this playoff run would be?

2nd round - NDSU at home
Quarterfinal - @ Furman
Semifinal - @ cats
Championship - vs SDSU

That would be a run for the ages!

If the Griz actually pulled those games and won all that would be similar to the "miracle on ice"

I was wondering this too with the whole regional aspect I thought it was weird we’d never met in the quarters, and then I realized there’s no way they would allow that. Both fan bases generate too much money. They want to divide and conquer. Two Montana teams having quarterfinal games at home probably generates more than us playing one of the 4 quarterfinal games at someone’s place. I’ll take my tinfoil hat off now, but that’s my 2 cents.

You can keep the tinfoil hat on being a cat fan and all.

It could have plenty to do with money, or it could have more to do with the fact we play the last regular season game of the year every year. If we met earlier in the season I don’t think the committee would have a problem with us on the same side or in the same section of the bracket, but when they have a recent head to head that helps them separate seeds and come up with matchups outside of the rivalry.

If you want the real reason it could have more to do with the fact that the cats weren’t very good in the FCS when the griz were, and vice versa. There’s only been a handful of seasons where we’ve both been at the same level. I would love to see a late round matchup between the two. The fan bases would love a second brawl in a season.
