FCS Championship James Madison vs YSU

This game is not exciting at all nor was the lead up to it. The championship game used to be on the main ESPN channel. Now FCS is relegated to ESPN2. All the DirecTV guide said was final game of the season, unless you knew what the game was all about you probably had no idea that it was a Div I championship game. FCS gets no hype at all. Hell, the couch potato bowl gets more respect than the FCS championship game.

And worse than usual, because: Lack of a hype-able "story line." When it comes to "lesser" events, TV commentators -- and print media, for that matter -- are basically too lazy (or rushed, or whatever) to dig for a good story line for the event. When NDSU was on its run, the story line was easy: Can the "Bizon" three-peat, four-peat, etc? And, toward the end, they had the Carson Wentz story. Will he get drafted and, if so, how high? All that made life easy for the talking heads.

There were good story lines for the YSU-JMU game (Bo Pelini "comedown," first-year JMU coach, etc.), but it would have taken a lot more work to flesh them out for an audience that, generally, knows nothing about FCS football. Result: They couldn't be bothered, other than a few remarks during the broadcast.
