Just a matter of time until it goes to an 8 or 16 team playoff

This is what the CUSAMWC merger is all about. Getting a seat at this playoff table. The middle teams will be in a large pool with only the champ getting a shot but I think they have to give the Conference champion a shot. My take anyway

This is moving quickly and teams are scrambling to catch the last possible train out as the number of FBS conference will dwindle to 9 and maybe 8 before this is all over. MWCUSA merger, and SUNBELT/WAC merger are already on tap to hit the 9 FBS conference number. Two conferences will probably be gone by 2013.

I think the more the SEC continues to dominate and the more the SEC bias by the media is embraced, the more that (non-SEC) school presidents and conference commissioners will lean toward playoff. A 1-loss Pac-12 team or a 1-loss Big Ten team will never stand a chance against a 1-loss SEC team in the current BCS model. But give the teams a chance to settle it on the field, esp in Eugene, Ann Arbor, etc in December, and all bets are off.
