Offensive MVP: Jordan Johnson
The main reason the difference in records from this year's to last's is JJ's leadership, decision making, and yeah, he's pretty talented too.
Defensive MVP: Anthony Goodwin
I was still worried about the secondary coming into this season but the whole unit has improved and Chief has stood out among the group.
ST MVP: Joey Counts
Always busts his ass getting downfield, seems like he is always there first and making the tackle.
Newcomer: Travon Van
All I can say is that I'm glad that Marshall wanted to move him to CB.
Unsung Hero: Jamal Wilson
He doesn't get in the stats a lot with his limited carries and receptions, but Jamal seems like he is always making a key block every time he is in.
Best Offensive Plays
(for the execution/individual performances)
1.) Jordan Johnson to Ellis Henderson TD catch against ASU
First TD of the season to set the tone for the rest of the year. The way it happened made it even more special...with JJ getting hit but still having enough arm strength to zip the ball into a narrow window and Henderson completing the sliding catch with a defender all over his back.
2.) Jordan Johnson diving for first down against UCD
Only up 14-0, it was a pure effort play that was crucial in helping to put away the Aggies.
T3.) Travon Van spin move/ankle breaker against ASU
Didn't directly result in any points but what would have been a 2 yard loss for most any other RB, turned out to be a 25 or so yard run.
T3.) Jordan Canada reverse field TD against UCD
Same thing...Canada should have been stopped for a loss or very short gain but instead was able to make something out of nothing.
(for the play calls)
1.) Travon Van 70-yd TD catch against UND
Isolating Van out in the flat with a LB was asking for a TD to happen.
2.) Smithwick-Hann 41-yd TD run against UCD.
Obviously it was a great call, or great fake, or nobody was expecting it or all the above as there wasn't an Aggie within 10 yards once Shay got going.
Best Deffensive Plays
-Bienemann's goal line stop vs. ASU
-Both goal line stops vs. PSU
-Hermanson's (gogriz incorrectly credited Goodwin) forced fumble and Tully's recovery inside the 10 vs. ASU
All were important and came at critical times.
