Fan Commitment and Attendance

Serious, what's your excuse now for not making games on your free time?

We play to slow on offense.
Well that's not going to be the case this season.

DeCuire's coaching is stale and he's too rigid.
I saw a basketball loving, fun, open minded, and recharged DeCuire on the bench against WWU. His assistants are more involved with the players too, especially Coach Cobb.
Seems to me DeCuire and his staff have made some changes with how they do things. A lot of tiny things you can't notice, unless you're at the games.

Making time to go is not easy, or we're too far away.
After meeting the Moody family at the WWU exhibition, I can't accept that. They're making an almost 700 mile one way trip for most every game this season. I'm not sure if they'll make every game, but they'll be there more than many of us. They're the epitome of committed. I can see the Thursday night games being a legitimate problem. Saturday games, not much of an excuse.

My point being, it looks to me, this year's team will be the team to put fan excuses to rest. I just hope they keep the terrific play and attitude going all season. A lot of me tells me, this is going to be great basketball season and team.

Amen. I can't get to games in Missoula but I can when they play in my neck of the woods--which is twice this year.

Still wish there were more sizzle in the promotion of Montana basketball.

They took my seats away to sell a couple of 6 packs, still not pleased about that.
Unless they have sold the place out, there must still be seats available.

I don't know if it is the same at UM, but at Weber they show you a chart of what is open and let you choose.

I'm not sure about this year or last season. I now have season tickets. A few years back, they'd only sell lower tier side seats to GSA members, even if you were willing to pay top dollar. Stupid and disappointing, so many seats left empty. They also turned higher profit margin.

I agree with fanofzoo regarding the closure of the north upper level as a general admission seating area. I can't imagine the facility "managers" are making more $$ from alcohol sales; it certainly doesn't look like it.

We certainly don't see many groups like high school or "Y" teams attend now. There were always those groups in the north bleachers. Those who do attend, are seated way high in the south or west, segregated from the rest of the crowd. I can't imagine they get much of a game experience.

It has been a long time since Missoula has supported Griz Basketball. With the area population, Montana should be able to get 3-4K every game. Travis really pushes getting to games at the GSA events and you can tell it frustrates him that his teams are not supported more, and I can't blame him. Both teams look to have added some talent and I hope success translates to the support they deserve.

I can blame him! I admire everything about Travis but he’s not a showman. I can only take Neon Deion in small doses but I have to give him credit for what he’s done at Colorado, building enthusiasm around that program. Our own Wayne Tinkle launched a one-man charm campaign when he took over at Oregon State, visiting any campus group that would have him. Other schools have Midnight Madness; we can barely get a box score of an exhibition game.

Speaking at GSA groups is preaching to the converted. Do any members of our staff seek out wider speaking opportunities in Missoula? Is there an advertising budget?
Egriz members on this board have registered complaints about seating at Dahlberg for years. Have those complaints ever been addressed? Is there outreach to other schools about their most successful promotions?

I believe right now the Lady Griz are generating more excitement than the Men. Sad.

All valid points, especially about getting enthusiastic about the program. I will give the women credit; they are bringing in quality names for home games which gets people excited. Soccer did a great job at this in 2023. I have no idea about scheduling; however, I am surprised that Travis has not been able to get more Western teams to agree to come to Dahlberg... Huskies, Wazzu, Zags, etc.

In addition to Montana soccer's outstanding pre-conference schedule, the Montana Griz volleyball team hosted an impressive field at its pre-season Ellesyn Invite in Missoula: Pitt (currently ranked 7th nationally) and BYU (currently ranked 8th nationally). Included in the tourney was a respectable University of Texas at Rio Grande team that won the WAC last year.

Those P5 womens soccer and volleyball teams aren't as concerned about the major economic effect losing to teams like montana could have as men's basketball teams.

Win some easy non conference games, go .500 and take 8th in the conference ( Big 10 ha!), collect a few million every year, and lose in the first or second round.

Watched some griz practice today. Team looked attentive supportive and ready to go. I was impressed with newcomers and returnees. Whitney not there for some reason. Mooooopdy can still shoot.

Dahlberg died for Mens Basket Ball when they took away the east side floor from the rowdy students.... It was the fact we had a rowdy loud Arena that filled the place no matter who we played.....

There is going to be a lot of good basketball in Missoula this winter. I just wish the University tried harder to promote both teams.

Sell beer in the concessions at all sporting events, pay the coaches the beer profit for their salaries. Drop the price of tickets a little bit, use that money that used to be allocated for salaries for advertising and BOOM - more butts in the seats…..Just a thought
