EWU hires OC

The Eags have hired a former EWU player named Fred Salanoa as their new OC and TE coach. He was a high school coach in Hawaii for a couple years and his latest position was as an associate head coach at another high school in Hawaii. The fans seem somewhat underwhelmed.
 
As long as he has EWUs famous "get 10 yards behind any defender and I'll throw you a wide open bomb" play in his arsenal....he will do just fine.
 
Is this a pretty late hire? I would think with spring ball around the corner the staff would be put together
much sooner. IDK thats why I'm asking.

Seems late to me. I believe they just got a receivers coach from Central Washington as well and they still have some pieces left to put in place

Salanoa was a great QB for EWU, will be interesting to see how he pans out as the OC. We brought in a high school coach last year for the same position and he is now coaching in the PAC 12, so its worked before, we will see...

Dumas being hired as the WR coach was a great hire, he will be a great coach at EWU. He was basically the reason Kupp ended up at EWU 5 years ago...

We still need an O line coach and RB coach. UND's RB coach just said he was leaving and its rumored he's EWU bound, which would be a nice get for Eastern, time will tell...
 
Salanoa is the QB Kraemer ripped into on television after the first half of an Idaho game in which ewu was destroyed. He had replaced Griffin Garske, a perfectly good QB who I think quit the team over the way he was treated.

This seems, at least on the surface, a very odd move to make.

I do agree its odd, but could be more $$$. It would be a great hire for EWU if its true as he's been a great recruiter for UND...
