Eric Williams 53.3 per punt

Dude was fun to watch after his punts.
Put this on the game thread just now, but it makes sense to repeat it here, in its own thread:

Supposedly Stitt does not like to punt ... but, at least for this one game, the Griz have a punter that you can't ignore. Not only did he average over 53 yards per kick ... but with the fair catches and a downing, he put Valpo at the 20, 17, 15 and 1 yard line. That folks, is a weapon.

He did have a great game and I give him huge kudos. However, when your punter may be the MVP of the game against the level of competition we played today, we may be in some trouble.

That was a bit of sarcasm, I'd say. When your QB goes 27/38 (71%) for 381 yards, with 4 TDs, I think he deserves the MVP accolade. Yes, he did throw one pick ... which may not have been his fault. Also, I saw an earlier post with a ridiculously high QB rating.

Williams averaged only 36.3 yards per punt in 60! punts at Carleton previously. He did look good today, but let's see how he does with serious pressure like he will get next week. Valpo didn't make him rush any of his punts.

Next week will be an interesting test for a few reasons, they'll rush him for sure, but also UW has an amazing punt returner. If Williams can keep those hang times up that'll be good, if not we may just want him to kick them out of bounds....

Great quote from Stitt:

"Eric had a great day," Stitt said. "That last punt, I told the team, 'I don't know if I've ever seen a better punt than that.' You see a lot of long punts on TV, but for that one to stop on the 1-yard line was incredible. Everyone wants to talk about kickers when they're not very good. We should talk about them today because they were very good"
