Kirk Earlywine, head men's basketball coach at EWU was fired today by the A.D.

The rumor out of Spokaloo is that he had lost his players: they didn't like or respect him, apparently.

I don't know if this will help or hurt EWU. After watching them twice in Ogden this past week, I think they have some good young talent. And they all return (assuming none of them bolt now that their head coach is gone). Their quickness gave Weber fits. It appears to me that Earlywine could recruit but not coach, much like his longtime mentor Joe Cravens.

That's kind of surprising. He seemed to be getting some very good recruits to come play for EWU. I wouldn't be surprised see them near the top of the Big Sky next year.

If he did lose the respect of the players though, it's probably time for him to go. Hopefully for EWU's sake whoever they hire to replace him can make good use of the talent they have coming back next year.

huse should see if he wants a job on our staff. we could use someone who knows how to recruit again....

Im surpised by this news, with as much as EWU was able to do with absolutely no seniors and looking like they could be something special the next few years.

Big Sky coaches have historically been given three years to "prove" something. Through four years Earlywine was 42-78, 24-40 In the Big Sky. In his defense, his tenure started with a very young team; his own program's recruits were basically in their second year. An interesting person. Very candid, no-punches pulled before, during and after games. He'll be a great top-level assistant somewhere.

Does anyone think that Giacoletti will get another look at EMU? Question being would he take the job if it was offered. I think he is a good coach.
