Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love everything about recruiting. I also like the earlier signing period. Every year, I try to watch as much recruiting shows as possible (usually on any ESPN network). Every year, I am excited for all these young athletes, no matter where they choose to attend. However, a lot of me wishes and would like to see these young men more protected from the media. Most these guys are not mature enough to be in the spotlight of the cameras. As happy as I am for seeing them rewarded for their talents and hard work, I am equally frustrated for them. Many of the recruits struggle with their emotions and being in the spotlight.
I wish the networks, hs coaches, parents, etc would take the time to either better prepare these kids for these moments, or have their coaches and/or parents represent them more at their announcements. I absolutely loved how well Fouch's signing day was handled. It was a day of celebration for him and his family. Yet, he was not put in an awkward position. Instead, they kept it low key and his coaches did most of the speaking.
I honestly feel, a huge advantage of not attending a national power is being more in the background, and not the spotlight from the get go. I see so many of these recruits struggle in the spotlight, it makes me wonder if playing for the national powers is really worth it? I am sure, many parents would prefer their kid go through something more low key than being on national cable tv announcing your decision. These kids have yet to achieve anything at their respected colleges, why put them in this kind of spotlight? To me it comes off as "which school are you choosing to take advantage of your talents and make that school money off your efforts?"
On the brightside of this, it is a great day for recruits. As for GRIZ NATION, it makes me even prouder to be part of GRIZ NATION and how signing days are handled.
