Shroyer took the worst to first, in my mind that's a much better accomplishment than what a prediction poll suggests. The reason MSU was so low in the polls was because nobody knew who any of their players were.
I guess winning all of your early games instead of splitting them not only prevents the late season "Durham Doom" from ending playoff hopes, it also earns you coach of the year.
This could be the first time a coach has won this award and yet his fan base wouldn't mind if he didn't come back to coach next season.
The award is generally given out for the regular season. Not to take away from Krysco, but I would imagine that if the post season was taken into account he would have gotten more consideration.
I think he deserves it: from consensus pick for a last place finish to a regular season sweep of Montana and a second place finish in the conference. A few days ago I picked up the November 2004 Sports Illustrated issue in which they projected the NCAA tourney teams. They had the Griz from the BSC. Turns out they were right, though most of us wouldn't have thought so 4 weeks ago. It also puts Durham's achievement this season in perspective.
The real interesting thing here is how getting Coach of the Year impacts the various Fire-Durham-Now threads at www.bobcatnation.com.
