At UM, vice president Jim Foley said Maus has been been suspended indefinitely from the football team, pending resolution of the court proceedings. He said athletic officials also will implement the Student Athlete Code of Conduct, and any related sanctions.
Of course seems kind of wierd that some no-name walk-on gets this treatments when a certain back-up linebacker did the exact same thing coming down the rattle snake and they were more than happy to let the "legal system run its course." Sorry, maybe I am being too cynical. Perhaps the UM admin has grown-up a little bit and should be applauded for taking an appropriate position on this situation.
Just for PR, yes this should result in at least a one game suspension (for the DUI) and perhaps a second or third for lying to the officer. The DUI is a mistake many young people make, the second is clearly a character issue that needs some serious consequences to put this young man back on the right path.
Well, said LB didn't obstruct justice by giving a false name to the police, either. Contrary to what many of you (particularly cat fans) believe, there ARE degrees for these types of issues.
I think the punishment -- like nearly every punishment I've seen from either school -- is appropriate.
Didn't Stuber get at least a two-game suspension (or was it 3), as well as other considerable internal discipline. I assume he wasn't a walk-on. If what's being said in this thread is all true about Maus (and I don't have any info myself), then he will be lucky to get only a two-game suspension.
I don't agree with the Cat who says the other stuff is a character issue, altho it does make the incident more serious. Hey Doeb, are you ready to admit, yet, that Kemp/Johnson were never charged with assault of a police officer? Talk about a character issue. In my view, you lack character for refusing to admit, after being asked multiple times, to admit that you were wrong and unfairly hammering these two kids.
