great as the oregon win was, washington will be a horse of another breed. among all the great big sky victories this pre-season--montana over oregon, sac state over oregon state, montana state over u.s.f., northern arizona over santa clara, northern colorado over everybody they've played--washington doubled the score on league fave portland state, 110-55. they're the 14th ranked team in the country, and loaded for bear...sad to see so few griz fans in eugene to enjoy the win. couldn't help notice that had it been football, we would have turned out a couple of thou, versus the handful sitting behind the bench or scattered through the rafters...still rue the loss of thurman woods, who would have bumped our athleticism and inside play up even another notch. i notice tinkle is keeping a scholarship open till spring, hopefully we can re-sign woods, or maybe kareem jamar, the small forward from westchester high in los angeles. per mslacat, he'd narrowed his choices to montana or portland, but neither school signed him in the early period...noticed eric hutchison on the bench in eugene in street clothes, but seeminly walking without crutches or a boot. i wonder if he's good to go by december if tinks will play him, or redshirt him...and speaking of december, we'll have two big conference game early, when northern arizona and northern colorado come calling, december 4 and 5. both have been impressive in the pre-season.
