It's a trite saying, but it is what it is.

The reporters just confirmed what you likely already know - for ET & Co., shaping & controlling the narrative is their job description. Negative publicity, despite what many here think, shines a bad light on the department, the program & university. & it's not viewed in present day terms - the 24 hour news cycle. It's cumulative, and amp'd further by guys like Krak rehashing everything in an effort to generate cash. I get they want to be protective & cant blame them for that effort. Then there's the competitive element - gogriz cranks out content & all the content providers are looking for access so they can crank it out as well. Who's going to get preferential treatment? They likely error on the side of who pays them to provide content. One last thing, Bob loves the spotlight - when it's all 90 plays, fly sweeps, sunshine, flowers & a vintage caddy that purrs. Throw in the up & downs of the first two years, a fanbase with huge expectations and he's likely going to be more reclusive until the "sun comes out again."

Why should any of this be a surprise?
You realize this philosophy predates Stitt by about 10 years, right?

Why yes, I do realize that. So that excuses everyone holding a program position or a seat @ the table today? It's what it is because of the great O'Day or Big Game Bobby?

Doesn't excuse anybody. Just found it odd in your rant to suddenly throw a dig in at Stitt, when he's here just trying to clean up the shit from the past.

Overall, I think the sports media has programs and coaches by the balls.
Don't provide "adequate" access, risk a piece like the one in this thread that makes you look bad.
Provide "adequate" access, risk giving out info that can be twisted around to make you look bad.

The arbiters of "adequate" are the ones with the platforms and pens.
Put another way, if there was a guarantee that no negative press could come from not talking to the press, I think coaches would talk to the press a lot less.

EDIT: I also may lay by the bay and make thinks out of clay.
