In my original post I didn't say anything negative about JP, just that he dove at the legs alot. We had great linebackers last season, and this years guys have done a good job, I just notice a trend to dive last weekend, which if it is from taking bad angles or being out of position then diving is just compounding the problem. Hopefully this gets corrected, because we are coming up against 3 teams that if our guys dive and miss it will be a long gain if not TD.
Your original post and observation was a valid one. Just don't expect much football talk on this board, only slams from uninformed posters who know nothing about the game, but want you to think they do. They would rather try to be dime store comedians.
Yes, the Griz defenders all too frequently take poor angles, thus the need to dive at the legs in desperation to make a tackle, instead of squaring up their shoulders and engaging the opposing player. I have heard Gregorak yell at his players in practice about taking poor angles, but have never seen him run a drill to teach that skill. Yes, there are drills that most defensive coaches use to teach that skill. Ty may use them, but I have never seen him do so.
Your last paragraph is probably one of the best observations I've seen I this board. Watch any defensive practice in youth or HS football and you'll see the angle drill. The Griz tendency to take poor angles over the last couple of years is a total enigma.
