Did you guys see SportsCenter this morning?

They showed a freaking nobody Blue Jay STEALING HOME against the Yankees. That's how bad they've gotten. A nobody steals home for his freaking THIRD stolen base of the year. Seems Andy Pettite was staring down the runner at first and didn't even hear Jorge Posada screaming for the ball until it was too late. Aaron Hill was 2/3 of the way home or more before Pettite dealt.

Roger Clemens is coming back for THIS? I think SportsCenter quoted a nine-in-a-row loss string since Clemens announced or some other such rot.

SportsCenter paired the event with footage of Jackie Robinson stealing home.

Incidentally, why don't people do this anymore? We seem to see everyone playing Bochy-Ball, which is just get a hit and wait for the jack that never comes. We hardly EVER see stealing and hit-and-running anymore. It wouldn't mean so much if it were the '80s and Rickey Henderson was doing this stuff every day. Just makes what happened to the Yanks yesterday so much more amazing and so much more horrible for them.

In the early to mid-nineties baseball entered the live ball era. Home Runs went way up. When the odds of getting a home run, or other long ball go up, the less you are willing to risk losing a base runner. As a manager you only have to have a runner get caught stealing only to have the player behind him hit a homer or a triple before you learn not to send that runner if there is a risk.

Plus, home run hitters are often not as speedy as the players from earlier eras.

The increase in overall scoring in the past few years should lead you to believe that the jack does come often enough. But if you like to watch bunts, and sacrifices you can still watch NL pitchers bat.

Somewhere in new york, there's a six year old wondering if the yankees will win a world series in his lifetime.

I would tell him to eat his vegetables, develop healthy habits, don't smoke or drink, exercise regularly, visit the doctor yearly, and maybe then he too, will live long enough to see the Yankees win their next World Series. :thumb:

I guess I should have thought of that before rooting for the Mariners. That was good thinking on your part to choose the Yankees. So who is your hockey team? I assume it is the Red Wings. Do you like the Lakers or the Celtics in basketball? Football is tough with all that damn lack of disparity. I imagine you are a Cowboys, fan though. :thumb:

Get real. I was watching and rooting for the Yankees when CBS owned them and they sucked shit, OK? I hate hockey unless watching in person, whihc amounts to all of 4 times, but I did get to see the Avalanche the year they won the Cup. I don't care for the NBA much either, as I have posted so nice try with your lame ass attempt at saying I am some front runner. Were you in Dornblaser or are you a bandwagon Griz?
