“It’s a lifestyle thing to me,” says Dickenson. “My alma mater, Montana’s going to have an opening as well. I love college, I love Montana. But . . . I ain’t going there, either.
“For me it’s about having stability with your family, and making sure that you have some time with your family. Basically, don’t try to put yourself above what’s important.”

Major kudos to DD for having the courage of his convictions and being a stellar representative UM alum. :thumb:

Well, we sure as hell don't want somebody who puts things in perspective. f*** that! We need swagger!
Yep. If he really "loves Montana", the wife and kids stay in Canada! Shaking my head, SuperDave...

This is something that I have thought about as far as Dave Dickinson being the Head Coach at the UM.

In his playing days, he earned a legacy, and is revered as one of the greatest to have ever played here.

Imagine the expectations that would be on his shoulders as the HC for the UM.

Dave Dickinson walk on water here once, I don’t know if anybody including Dave Dickinson could live up to the expectations that would be levied upon him as HC at the UM.

I would think that DD has given this some thought also, and may be the reason he is comfortable in the position that he is in.

A job that appears he loves, home in Canada with his lovely Canadian wife and children, and not having to meet unattainable expectations for the second time.

These are just my thoughts, and if I were in DD shoes I would have them.

He is a smart man. He would be in a potentially lose-lose situation here.

If he took over the Griz job he would:

Probably lose the crown of "Super Dave." We would lose a few games and the crowd could turn on him. He could go from hero to goat in one short year.

Probably lose a better salary than the one he is getting in Calgary.

Probably lose lots of the family connections--new place to live, new work hours, recruiting and film study hours eats family hours.

He would lose many of his Calgary friends, neighbors, etc.

He is pretty darn smart to stay where he currently coaches.

Probably?

Can't fault the guy for staying where he is comfortable and happy. No reason he should leave there just because his school has an opening. Best of luck to DD, hope he gets a HC opportunity soon up there.
