I'll take the moderate approach and say that he is a very good recruiter and especially in his first two years, improved the talent level immensely. Of course the talent level was at rock bottom to begin with, so it wouldn't have been that hard to improve. In his 5 years he's signed numerous consensus top-100 players (Q Richardson, Bobby Simmons, Lance Williams, Steven Hunter, George Baker, Imari Sawyer, Andre Brown, Levar Seals, Quemont Greer) plus top 20 JCs Paul McPherson and Sam Hoskin. Also at FSU remember he brought in Charlie Ward, Bobby Sura, Sam Cassell, etc. as well.
However, where he fails is is at X's and O's. He is simply disorganized and a bad strategist. He brought in former LA Clipper coach Jim Todd, a noted X's and O's coach in as an assistant coach this year, but apparently he didn't turn enough of the offense over to him to make much of a difference.
Now that he's at a non-elite conference, the hope for you guys is that he can bring in enough talent such that it doesn't matter if he sucks as a coach, that talent alone can win a lot of ball games for you.
