I liked how Delaney immediately stepped up to the job and delivered a clear message everyone could relate to and rally behind - we're the f*ing Griz, these issues will be dealt with but won't slow us, the expectations are the same etc. etc. I'm paraphrasing obviously, well except for the etc. etc. part... But I thought he handled that initial awkward phase really well.

Is he the long-term solution? I don't see it but I certainly won't root against the guy, and sure as hell won't root against the Griz.


Kind of cool to see all the Butte dickheads rallying behind Mick, that's the way it should be. :thumb: :thumb:

Just now read this thread so I am days behind. My comment is for the guy who said on the first page that Delaney is a proven great coach and leader because of his "Butte Roots". Evil Kneievl, or however you spell it, had Butte roots and is probably most famous for crashing into the Snake River Canyon. I saw a Hustler magazine many years ago where the centerfold was from Butte. Smoking body but she had a buttface, almost painful to look at. With Butte, you get the bad along with the good. Sure Butte won the AA championship this year, but how many years of mediocrity at best before they got there? Butte has character and flair, but calling a lifetime position coach a great coach because he is from Butte is patently ridiculous, like most ego things from that strange city.

I'm from Missoula, grew up here, and lived here most of my life. I only went to school in Butte, BUT the class of people from Butte is amazing. Many of my best and loyal friends still live there. I met Robert Evil K a couple of times. He was a first class dick every time, but he would have made a great egriz poster. Many here are just like him. I also know Mick, from his days helping his brother out at the Vu Villa. He is much more about what Butte is about then RK. The worse citizens in this state each are not in Butte. Butte is among the best, hands down.

I hope you gleamed from my post that I am kind of neutral about Butte. Lots of character but a whole lot of people who think that if it wasn't invented or done better in Butte it doesn't matter, which is nonsense, of course. Being from Butte alone doesn't make you a good coach or leader. In my opinion, Delaney should not be extended for any reason, other than players demanding it, and even that is kind of a stretch. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't see an improvement with the head man this year. Assistants may be better.

With all of the "huffin' n puffin'" lately, most of you would probably be pretty excited about getting an opportunity to put a "hurt" on him. Grizindabox? Growler? Other than that, I wouldn't mind seeing Alex Bienemann get another chance at Delaney for the SUU debacle. It will probably happen mid-season anyway but a cage match might be nice.

I do not agree with this. I think you will be singing a different tune after this season. There were serious conflicts between Rosenbach and Delaney; those are gone. We will see this year if Scott Gragg is HC material; I suspect he is.

Scott Gragg is out for himself. We will see. He's never been a HC anywhere but at Silverton high school in Oregon. Check his record there. They've had a good program since he left.

Kem....I'm sure Gragg is a good man, but when the time comes, I hope we go after a more experienced head coach type and conduct a national search that is honest, for a change. By the way, I hope Mick has a great year and, if he does, is given a contract extension.

This is from the interview: One person inside the department said to me recently, “I wish we’d had (Delaney) 10 years ago.” If this sort of delusional thinking is common in the athletic department, then we are is serious trouble. Delaney has not earned any consideration for a contract extension. Last season was a coaching nightmare. If the upcoming season is anywhere near what last season was like, then Delaney should be gone.
