Delaney Quote: No Excuses

From the Billings Gazette, Aug. 28 or 29, 2012:

"The expectation at the University of Montana is to win a national championship," Delaney said. "And that's going to be the case whether Mick Delaney's here or Robin Pflugrad or Jack Swarthout in 1969 or Ray Jenkins in the '50s or whoever's here in 2020.
"Our expectation right now is to win 15 football games. But because of all the troubles and the change and being young...there are no excuses. Our expectations are to be Montana, and that's to compete for a national championship."

Well, Mick?

I would imagine every team in the FCS is competing for a National Championship and to win every game they play. One really needs to learn coach speak, it seems easy enough but it really isn't English.....

I don't get it. Are you asking him for excuses now? I'm pretty sure he elaborated on each loss after each game.

BTW, it's nice that Mick said those things back in August, but let me ask you this Tourist, did you actually expect the Griz to win 15 games and win a national title this season? And you don't need to give me the cliche' answer about not expecting them to be 3-6. OBVIOUSLY, no one expected that.

They won't be 3-6.

Excuses and reasons are NOT the same thing, and all we've heard this season are excuses. I fear for another season with this coaching staff.

Do not have a heart attack over the situation! I say that Mick Delaney steps down right after this dismal season is over. If for some strange reason I am wrong......Then expect sir Engstrom to do some stepping all by him self along with Pat Williams. Period.

Count on Mick doing the right thing and leaving for the retirement he is after!

Careful now I didn't define "he"......... Some of you are assuming.

What should he have said at the beginning of the year?? "Well, I don't think we'll be that good this year. We will probably win some games but there is no hope for the playoffs." That would be good motivation for the players to give it their all and for all of you to buy tickets.

Every coach, at any level of college or professional sport, would say the same thing at the beginning of the year. "We are playing to win a championship".

I still think Cat/Griz will determine if the Griz have a losing season or not (as they'll win the next 2). And I bet if the Griz win, Mick will be back next year. :twocents:
