It's quite a story. He had been recruited by Huse at MSU, but then with the broken leg, and the change to Fish, it looked like his career was over. Wayne had called him the day after his leg broke (in football) and offered encouragement. Nobody else did. He remembered that, and when Fish was not returning his calls after Fish replaced Huse, he called Wayne, because Wayne had offered that encouragement. He's here because of that. DeCuire had given him his scholarship termination notice last year, and it looked like a "cut" might be in the works. Obviously, that turned around.kyle_sample said:That's the plan for his junior and senior season. He deserves it. He was spending his summers working with his dad's construction company. And he's come a long way on the court. Remember he missed all of his senior season with a broken leg.UMGriz75 said:That's interesting news.kyle_sample said:... and Gavin going back on scholarship ...

From what I know they never thought about cutting Gavin
grizrule, by "this season" do you mean the 2017-2018 season?mtgrizrule said:kyle_sample said:UMGriz75 said:It's quite a story. From what I know they never thought about cutting Gavin
I think, it is a matter of interpretation. Last year, DeCuire made it known to Gavin it was a 1 year scholarship, subject to review for the next season. Gavin accepted the challenge and ran with it. The kid improved so much by the end of last season. In my opinion, he made granting him a scholarship this season an easy choice for Travis. He also made better decisions and much more dedicated to improvement than his teammate who has since transferred out.
And I might have reached too far with that speculation; my thought was, "wow, if the coach is telling the kid he's going to lose his scholarship, that's kind of an invitation to leave ... or get cut later." He wasn't getting much court time, but then again, Jordan Gregory got almost none his freshman year ....kyle_sample said:From what I know they never thought about cutting Gavin
