Dec 3 ESPN2?

I was wondering why we were given a 7:00 PM kickoff for a second round playoff game and started thinking about possible reasons.

The NCAA shows our game as broadcast on ESPN+, but I wonder if we might see ESPN want to upgrade our game to either ESPN2. The only FBS game being played on December 3 is the Pac 12 Championship Game at 6:00 PM on ABC. And the current ESPN2 schedule for 7:00 PM on Dec 3 has "NFL Live" on during that time, so maybe they'd want to show a live football game instead.

ESPN initially had us and Eastern Washington on ESPNU before they upgraded us to ESPN2 earlier in the season. I'm wondering if we could potentially see the same thing happen again, especially if EWU beats UNI this weekend to set up a rematch.

I know it's just speculation at this point, but it'd be cool to have the game and WA-Griz shown in the national spotlight.

It's kind of weird. Last week before the bracket was announced, Sam Herder tweeted out the entire FCS Playoffs schedule. In that schedule, it showed that were supposed to be 4 second round games played on Friday, and 4 second round games played on Saturday, all on ESPN+. This is the first time this has ever happened. The second round has always had all 8 games played on Saturday until this year. Fast forward to Selection Sunday and the announcement of the bracket, and now only 2 games are being played on Friday. The first is Villanova vs. Sacred Heart/Holy Cross at 5 MST, and then us at 7 MST. I suppose it's a possibility but I wouldn't hold my breath. It'd be cool if they did a Friday doubleheader with the Villanova game first, and then we followed, but the games are only 2 hours apart so that's not possible.

These broadcasts are just a heap mess! I bought ESPN+ as it was touted to broadcast Griz games, got 0-2 last weekend....ESPN+ was wholesale blocked in several states for the cat/griz FB game. Never got to see the LG BB game either, ESPN+, simply crapped out.

Agreed, it's odd.

If TV is not a consideration at all, then why wouldn't the NCAA just schedule every game that weekend to be early afternoon games for their respective time zones? I am curious at how those kickoff times are determined once the playoffs begin.

The blackout was forced by Root and had nothing to do with ESPN+. As for the LG game, heard it was issues on the side of the school and not an ESPN+ issue.

+1, I don't get why people cannot understand this, ROOT controls the Brawl thus if they do not want ESPN to stream it, its their call. Until ROOT is kicked to the curb or it is renegotiated for it to happen. It will be like this every year.

ESPN+ is just an avenue for the games to be streamed, they pickup whatever the school sends them. So if there is an issue it is 99.9% the fault of the host school and something went wrong on their end. But lets continue to bash ESPN as it must be their fault.

I hope Root sports gets kicked to the curb. ESPN+ has been great to have this year for watching Big Sky football.

I think they’re going to. They got too much going on now with the additions of the Kraken and the Trailblazers, and that showed with ROOT cutting back the number of games broadcasted from 9 to 4. If they do move on, which I expect them to, I’d like to see the Big Sky sign another TV deal on top of the ESPN deal. Like an Altitude regionally, or maybe even an FS1 or CBS Sports. Even Stadium would be ok as that’s beginning to become more relatively available on streaming services. Something to keep in mind for the conference.
