Dean Leaving, Tinkle moved up

Any thoughts on this change? I have thought for a while that Tinkle was being groomed to take over the program in a couple years - wonder if that is what this means? Maybe more emphasis on recruiting Montana kids?

This is a great move in my opinion. I think Wayne Tinkle is one of best coaches I've ever been around. Not only does he know the game as well as just about anybody around he can do what he says. Wayne may very well be the best basketball player in the Big Sky conference right now if he were to suit up and if not that at the very least top 5. Wayne should be a coach in the NBA one day if he keeps up the hard work that he has been putting in. This should have been done as soon as Tinkle joined the griz as a coach. As for the taking over the program in a couple years I think that is a great idea and something to wish for but keep in mind who the athletic director is. No disrespect with Mr. Hogan but you never know what he 's gonna do next, I dont' think anybody expected Coach Kennedy so I wouldn't try to get to ahead of yourself with that although it is something to hope for. The only problem would be is how long could we keep coach Tinkle in town before he goes big time.

I think its glaringly obvious that my initial assessment of Tinkles coaching abilities were wrong and the praise I gave him can now be viewed as unwarranted.... I never in a million years saw this coming with regard to the way Tinkles teams have played.... its been upsetting to see Tinkle and the Griz underachieve the way they have the last few years..... Yes I have done a complete 180 on Tinks.... his in game coaching has been deplorable, he does not manage games.... he gets dominated by oposing coaches when it comes to x's & o's and its very frustrating to watch.... that being said I hope he can turn it around with all of his recruits in place.... but it's not looking good.... but then again what do I know? thats the whole point of bumping this thread right?

He needs to follow Haucks example. Turn it around with quality assistants. Evans was the best thing that has happened to this team. Huse seems to be trying to do the same in Bozeman.

I could not agree with you more about the Evans hiring.... IMO its time for Andy Hill to move on.... but the jury is still out on Nate D. it will be interesting to see if Tinkle and O'Day step on some good ol' boys toes to shake things up a bit this offseason..... time will tell I guess.... but I certainly hope coach Evans sticks around and finishes his career in Missoula.... he made us a very solid team defensively
