Daum commits to cats

Actually if there is one position we are pretty set at, it is at receiver. Jones, Henderson, Nacarratto, Burke, Janssen, Rodgers will all be back. Am I missing anyone?
And last year everyone bitched about the number of wideouts signed and that there weren't any interior linemen taken.
And your point is...?

We always bitch. And generally the coaching staff knows much more than we do.

I wanted Daum to sign with the Griz as bad as anybody, BUT, saying we'll regret this while the kid is STILL in high school is a bit of a stretch. It really stung when Brekke decommitted. But now, he's already 0-2 against the Griz, has played in ONE playoff game, and is already a junior. He's turning into a damn fine kick returner, but I don't see him as an All-American running back the next two seasons. And he CERTAINLY hasn't hurt the Griz head-to-head.

Every team has fast receivers. I'd be interested in what else he brings. Does he have those shifty swivel hip YAC moves like Cooper Kupp? If so, color me bummed out.

The first round playoff loss must have sealed the deal for him...we don't want losers like that in our program anyhow!

Loser? What a low blow, by a low-life. Give me a list of more accomplished HS wide receivers that ever went to the cats or Griz?

Football

3 time All-State - 2 times 1st team, 1 time 2nd team (missed the 1st team by 1 spot soph yr)
4 time letter winner
State Class AA Champion
State record setting WR
Had 2 interceptions and a touchdown with a broken hand and a cast covering his fingers up to his elbow and numerous tackles on defense his last two games as a senior.

Track - Senior season still to come

Will be 4 times All-State
State Class AA Champion - 100m and 200m, a heavy favorite to repeat in both.
Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year as a Junior
Will be on the podium all four HS years in the 100m and 200m (8 times)
Will be adding the 400m event I believe, so look for another podium finish.

4 sport athlete, including legion baseball and varsity basketball

Academics

3.87 GPA
4-time Academic All-State
Class Salutatorian

The kid will need both hands to wear his HS championship rings. This is a highly decorated STUDENT-ATHLETE.

He is polite and a very nice kid off the field, but a fierce competitor on the field and in the classroom. He's the type of person that makes you proud to be a fan of.

YOU DON'T LET A KID LIKE THIS GO TO YOUR RIVAL AND NOT END UP FEELING IT. :twocents: Not only for what he does against you, but mainly for what he could have been doing for you in the other 40 games he could have been playing for you. :twocents:

He has them in spades, he made plenty of DBs look silly. Nobody is as good as Cooper Kupp, but Daum has all the skills you look for in WR.

Sorry the Griz missed on Daum -- I think he's a great get for the Cats -- but he made his choice based on his priorities, not on ours. Let it go, folks, and move on.

'68 wants us to let go the fact that UM offered the best student-athlete in the state a 1/2 scholarship?

Easy for someone who has never met the kid or seen him play to say, "let it go". But for those that KNOW high school football in MT it's a different story. :protesst:

Not trying to stir anything up - just an innocent question as I am in no way familiar with this young man or AA football (six man is my game since I live in very rural Montana). If this young man is so good, why did he not receive other scholarship offers, from FCS or FBS teams? Did he just want to stay in Montana?

3 reasons Daum chose state over UM:

1) 1/2 sholly vs FULL scholly
2) Pro Style offense vs Spread
3) Unknown coach vs friendly coach Ash/staff

He was being recruited by 11 schools that I know of for sure. He narrowed down those schools to 2, msu and UM. (I don't know how many scholarship offers)

Intuitive, we all wanted the kid. I'm certain Mick and his staff wanted the kid. But sometimes at our level you've got to recruit to need. And the Griz don't need wideouts.

He may turn out to be an all-conference player, and that would suck for us. But it would also suck if we have 19 receivers on the team and one of ''em has to play nose tackle 'cause we don't have any of those.

People get so bent out of shape when the local kid doesn't get the love from all the local schools. UM did what it thought best and Daum did what he thought best. Time to get over it and move on. And I also have zero problem with UM offering only 1/2 a ride.

I agree completely, its all about need, if we were short of receivers like the cats, he would have been higher priority. Love our recruiting class. Hope the best for Daum, he seems like a very good kid.
