Interesting story wonder what/ how it will affect the whole athletic department.

The first step has been taken, let's see if some of the p5 school follow in their path.

Absolute f*cking garbage. We all thought the transfer portal and NIL was going to hurt college athletics... This will ruin it completely. What a joke.

So, if the athletes are employees of the university, how long before it's decided they don't even have to be students? Universities will just have pro teams and athletes never use up their eligibility.

Isn’t it already pretty much like that at many top FBS schools?

I wonder if 8 or more of the team will vote for this. I have my doubts.

The team is bad. Coach will get fired.

Other Dartmouth news yesterday was that its president decided to go back to requiring SAT’s.

The Big 10 and SEC are currently forming an advisory group. Translation both conferences will leave the NCAA for football. The two conferences currently have 34 schools between them. Toss in Clemson, Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame, and any number of others to bring the number to 40. 4 - 10 team conferences and whatever playoff structure they want off of that.

I have thought it was heading that direction for 10 years. Will all those schools be willing to run a 50 million dollar football payroll and if athletes become employees I imagine the water polo team and gymnastics' squads will want a piece of the pie. Throw in Title IX and popcorn futures might be a good bet.

Watched a pretty good interview with Sanders. He said that NIL has done nothing to impact college athletics. It's all the collective aspect.

NIL has had an incredible impact on college sports, especially football and basketball. Sanders is out to lunch on that one.

Be curious how much it cost to replace 2/3 of his roster when he took over last year. He's definitely trying to pull somebody's leg with that weapons grade hot take.

If athletes are considered employees of the university, they would be entitled to workers' compensation for any injury incurred in the course of their employment. No carrier is going to underwrite WC insurance. The State will not want to underwrite it, that would required the university to self-insure for the loss. That is a large cost.

They can declare themselves a union but does the university have to recognize them as one? One would think that any existing union to which they petition for membership would recognize this as a hot potato and not want to get anywhere near it. But I've been surprised before. There's bound to be a lot of litigation here.
