The best kept secret in the Big Sky Conference may be the home of the University of Montana’s basketball team, Dahlberg Arena. It was named after George "Jiggs" Dahlberg, who was an athlete, a coach and an athletic director at The University of Montana, and it holds approximately 7,500 maniacal Montana fans during the crisp Autumn and Winter basketball seasons. Home to a rich tradition of success, Dahlberg isn’t the largest venue for college basketball, but when the Griz Nation faithful pack the building, the ambiance is ear-splitting.

The arena features two levels of seating. General admission tickets are allocated in the north end of the building behind the student section, but truly, any seat in Dalhberg is prime for viewing Grizzlies’ hardwood action.

Simply awesome review. I am guessing the review was from a game at season's end, otherwise, very unlikely to have got that high of a review. Good to know GRIZ NATION is still capable, and has potential still. :thumb:

When Dahlberg is packed -- as it was for the final weeks of Montana's 2012 title run -- I can't imagine a better atmosphere for college basketball.

why not let 500 students in free every game. not just any students, ones that have written some clever cheers, demonstrated a zany outfit, or written what griz basketball means to them. once in the club, they'd get in free for a year. an elite group, sorta like the honey bears, or a tradition like the "37" jersey. a badge of honor to be included. you'd be guaranteed a raucous hard-core fan base each game, and with the bonds these kids formed over the year, you'd develop a solid base of griz fanatics for future years.

ah, i know. you can't do it. this isn't a pro franchise. this is a university. there are rules. rules, guidelines, executive orders. you know what? there are just too many rules.

all students/staff/faculty get in free for every game already, besides the tourney games!

i assume their tickets come out of student fees, no? so when they announce the attendance for a regular-season big sky game of say, 3500, does that include all those freebies? or is that paid attendance. if it includes the freebies, revenue for griz basketball must really be in the dumper. one other question: do students/staff/faculty get in free to football games?

I'm not sure if it comes out of student fees or if it is a service to the students. As for football. There are so many free student tickets that they have to get the week of the game until they are "sold out". Faculty/staff do not get into the football games for free

Back in the early 80s I got in to all Griz sports by the Student Activity Card. Got in to all basketball and football games with it; paid, if not mistaken, $ 45.00 per quarter for it. Of course, being that the UofM is on the semester system now it may have changed somewhat.

Students who are taking 12 or more credits pay a $58.50 athletic fee every semester. That's how UM Students get their "free" ticket to FB, BB, etc.
Students who are only part time can opt-in. If part time students do not opt-in they do not get a "free" ticket to any Griz athletic event.

faculty/staff don't get anything for free, whether it be parking or griz tickets. Although, I do hear that they get into track and tennis events for free. Oh, and I forget. Track and cross country events too. But, they gotta pay for football, basketball, volleyball, and parking.

I know that when I worked at the University a few years ago, faculty/staff had to buy tickets for bball games. Could have changed over the last 4 years since I left though.
