I’ve read most of what’s posted here and just thought giving a few realities regarding the youth on this team may show how good this season was.
Freshman or Redshirt Freshman total........44
Sophomore or Redshirt Sophomore...........28
Junior or Redshirt Junior.......................20
Seniors or Redshirt Seniors....................11
(I didn’t go back and recheck but you get the idea)
Of the 11 Seniors I believe 5 are impact players with Curran, Shaw, Buss, Miller, and Williams being noted.
Given the facts that we lead into the 4th quarter in most games, had I believe 20 fumbles(bad stuff right there) with the chance of beating msu in the final seconds(please note they have a pretty veteran team and head coach in his 3rd year) points to a pretty damn good team that just didn’t have the horses to finish strong. Can’t imagine how spent Shaw and Sims were at the end of games.
Given these facts it’s easy to see why we are at least a year away. Let these kids grow, get stronger, faster and “settled in” and we are fine. Hell the offense line has what 9 freshman/Redshirt freshman. It’s okay to start 1 or so but come on we are pretty green out there. Let em grow up.
If Bobby can bring in a couple of ready to go defensive lineman, a couple upperclassmen offensive linemen, and a serviceable runningback we will have a damn good team next year.
The only really sour note isn’t we lost to msu but how we lost and I mean lost the game. The university may have to file an IRS Form 709 or a gift tax return because what happened Saturday was a gift from us to msu and that gift definitely has value.
Bottom line is as disappointing as things went at times I honestly think the learning curve is beginning to flatten out, the culture has changed and these young men will be that much better next year.
