Crazy Calls

Okay, E-Griz help me out here. I usually watch the game on TV after seeing it live but wasn’t able to this time. Here is what I remembered in the stadium that I’m hoping folks here can address:

1. Why did the crew not automatically review the corner TD pass to White? Looked like he had possession, got foot down, and ball eventually came out when he hit turf 2 steps later. I’m fine if they review it and call it incomplete, but why wasn’t it reviewed. Aren’t all scoring plays or potential scoring plays automatically reviewed?

2. Was it a targeting on the SUU safety? How did they wave it off on review if it was? Targeting is any strike to the head or neck of a player with a helmet, elbow, fist, etc

3.. did we rough the passer early in game (that call bailed them out of a 3rd and long)

4.. was the call against Beaver for unnecessary roughness legit? He blocked until the whistle and finished his guy off with a pancake block down the field? Why was that flagged?

5.. was that truly a PI on Hicks-Onu

6.. didn’t they rough our passer when Cam threw the ball away?

7.. wasn’t that the definition of grounding when their QB literally threw the ball directly into the turf to avoid the sack and no one on offense was within a 10 yard radius of the ball?

8. What the hell was the “SUU won’t be charged with a timeout” because of some bullshit about a review already started? That one lost me

I feel like there may be 5-6 more of these that I’m not completely recalling. I’ve never seen anything like it.

I’m fine if they review it and call it incomplete, but why wasn’t it reviewed. Aren’t all scoring plays or potential scoring plays automatically reviewed? They review all scoring plays not potential scoring plays. I also think they got the call correct

2. Was it a targeting on the SUU safety? How did they wave it off on review if it was? Targeting is any strike to the head or neck of a player with a helmet, elbow, fist, etc can't remember the specifics but remember thinking they got it right after review

3.. did we rough the passer early in game (that call bailed them out of a 3rd and long) no

4.. was the call against Beaver for unnecessary roughness legit? He blocked until the whistle and finished his guy off with a pancake block down the field? Why was that flagged? Pretty sure they called holding and he then got a personal foul for something he said to the official

5.. was that truly a PI on Hicks-Onu I think it was a correct call

6.. didn’t they rough our passer when Cam threw the ball away? don't remember it

7.. wasn’t that the definition of grounding when their QB literally threw the ball directly into the turf to avoid the sack and no one on offense was within a 10 yard radius of the ball? don't specifically remember this play

8. What the hell was the “SUU won’t be charged with a timeout” because of some bullshit about a review already started? That one lost me replay had initiated an automatic review prior to SUU calling timeout, so they weren't charged

I feel like there may be 5-6 more of these that I’m not completely recalling. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Just checked and ESPN+ has the game on demand with no blackout in MT
Might be a tad bit easier to stomach knowing the final score.

I don't think I can watch it again, even with knowing the final score.

As someone said, "listening to it on the radio was painful", being a tv blackout was a silver lining. Thank god I didn't have to watch that.

Not drinking the kool-aid next summer, unless we get a new coach.

Thx for your feedback! On #4 with Beaver, the play you bring up did happen and was separate from the one I was asking about. The one I was curious about I believe was first quarter and was our first personal foul call. That play went to right side and he dominated whoever he was blocking on the left side like 10 yards deep and pancaked him at end. Looked like textbook football but drew a flag for some reason.

Went back and watched that play and he took him to the ground after the play was blown dead. It gets cut out of the frame, so not sure what exactly went down, but you do see the players react to it.

1. Should have been reviewed. 50/50 call. Definitely incomplete using the NFL rules but could go either way in college.

2. No. Good waive off of that targeting call.

3. No. Bullshit call.

4. Didn’t see a hold on tv, but it may have happened. The unsportsman conduct cannot happen no matter how shitty the officiating

5. No. Good defense and hand checking you see on every play. Official out of position and 35 yards away made the call.

6. Debatable, but far worse than what we’d been flagged for earlier.

7. Yes, but youl’ll never get that call if it’s thrown near a TE, even one who stayed in to protect and not running a route.

8. Complete bsc bullshit. If the reply was initiated, why hadn’t the officials blown a whistle to stop action. Never seen anything like that. #bsc

9. Another major miss was when we jumped offsides and made contact which should have stopped play. Consequently our defense DID stop and sout completed a huge pass on a “free” play that wasn’t.

10. All around an embarrassing performance by the stripes, even by lowly bsc standards. #bsc

Thank you for this feedback. It was like the twilight zone.

I found the Beaver play that I was talking about. At the 44 minute and 30 second mark on the ESPN replay Mitch Roberts catches a pass on the outside from Humphrey… Beaver blocks his man 10 yards down the field and pancakes him to the turf while Roberts is still getting gang tackled, no whistle‘s had blown yet. They called a personal foul on beaver, I have no idea why it was textbook offensive line blocking downfield. This was one of many head scratchers.

Hooked, they never replayed the first PF call. So, I guess we’ll never know….
